Default Popups grinding when turned off

I got a 2002 black coupe. My passenger side popuplight is making a buzzing grinding noise when lights go down. There is a rubber cover that covers a ****-like piece that keeps on spinning after the lights go down. The drivers side doesn't do this, it stops spinning immediatley. Is the problem adjustment (i tried several spots but it seems the little **** keeps spinning anyway).

I know I had read somewhere that the headlights can strip out the gears. Who else has had this problem, post up and let me hear your solution.

It sucks to pull up, look all cool in the vette, turn off the headlights, and BRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! It kinda kills the mood, lol.

Had this happen to my 01 a while back. There are two solutions. The cheap one is to unhook the motor and use the handcrank to turn it out 180 degrees so it now uses the unstripped side of the stock gear. The other is to buy some new gears and replace them. I personally replaced mine with some gears from here: http://www.rodneydickman.com/retail.html

Actually that guy sells gears for vettes as well. With the cheap mod you will need to unbolt the headlight. After that disconnect the linkage to raise and lower the headlight. With it disconnected use the **** to turn it 180 degrees then reconnect the linkage. Finally reinstall the headlight and you are done.
