Default cutting SS hood

has anyone ever cut out the bottom side of the hood to reduce weight my hood was in a accident so it doesn't matter to me was thinking of trying to cut out the underside. I'd use some flush fasteners(moroso) to hold it down I think I can cut out like 20#'s.

as long as you use some hood pins or fasteners to hold it down id think it'd be fine. the pin-on ss hood i bought has no bottom layer on it....

I cut the living crap out of mine. I left some edges for strength. But there is quite a bit to cut off. It makes the hood flimsier..but using hood pins and not having to slam it down with the hood latch it hasnt cracked or had any problems in a few years.

I think with the hood prop removal, latch and bracket removeal and SS hood excess removal...20lbs is not out of the question.

We have a factory SS hood that was badly damaged. Out of curiosity I took it and removed the entire understructure The weight of the understructure was about 28lbs. This included the front latch and the rear pieces that the hinges bolt too. The outer skin weighed 23.5lbs. As mention the outer skin get flimsy
