Pay no attention to that first number. It merely dictates the viscosity at freezing.

I've done 6 oil analysis' on my engine since installing a cam at 4K miles. It showed much better wear numbers with a thick 30W and 40W over a thin 30W like Mobil 1 5W-30.

Add Mobil 1 5W-40 Turbo Diesel to the list......

From researching the LS1 boards and BITOG, seems a lot of engines are showing higher wear #s with M1 5W-30. German Castrol seems to show the lowest wear, followed by a lot of other good oils, including what I went with, M1 5W-40 Truck & SUV, cause it's readily available at Walmart for a good price.

yes, 10w40 would be better, but 5w40 truck and suv is better still. Its showing great oil analysis results. try that if you dont want to be bothered tracking down the elusive g/c

Well I was going to get the syntec 10w40 since NO ONE around here had the 5w40 m1 or anythign else for that matter that was fully synthetic and better than 5w30.

Luckily I saw a thread here mention somethign about an amsoil dealer that was a memeber ) so I tossed em some business

Uh oh... seems M1 5W-40 T&SUV is being discontinued:

http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/...;f=35;t=000912

I hope wally world will carry the supposed equivalents, Turbo Diesel 5W-40 or Delvac 1. If not, will have to see if the new Castrol European Formula, which is supposed to be the replacement for the green GC, gets wider distribution, making it easier to find.
