Some of you may remember I got nailed a few days before my birthday back in February. That was fine...probably deserved the ticket, and I'm not complaining about that aspect of what started this thread, but...Anyways...the rant about this is I requested a postponement. I really hadn't had time until after tax season ended. I had called the court, talked to a cleark, explained the situation, and she told me "more than likely" I'd be granted one postponement based on that situation. Well...of course...check my mail this morning on my way to work, and I'll be damned if they tell me my request is denyed. So much for Nolo Per Se and the legal system of this country. :judge: We can let killers go free and give child preditors 10 days in jail and released on their own recognenicence but we can't accomidate someone that's attempting to represent themselves in a traffic violation as well as a busy professional. ok, enough of my :soapbox:
BTW, I've seen a lot of ticket threads lately, lesson/moral, slow the hell down out there and avoid the po po in the first place.

That sucks. Did they list a real reason why they said no ppd?? Anyways, that's MD for you.
Then again, you could have a real car and get away from the po-pos. ;)
j/k, I wouldn't ever run but you know I was just messing with you.

Nope, no real reason. They "checked the box" that said...
"A request for new trial date must be in writing and received by the Court within 90 days after the original trial date. The request must be accompanied by a penalty deposit in the form of a check or money order, made payable to the District Court, in the full amount of the fine. $145"
Box Other: "Your request has been denied, you may follow the above instructions to receive a new trial date"
That's what I don't get...doesn't say why it's denied and the appropriate boxes for continuance are not checked. Maryland does suck, I know that much.

what was your ticket, if it is bad can you just get an attorney and get rid of it. I am from the country so that is how we do it.

Slow down is right. VA and MD are going nuts right now handing out tickets. :eek2:
The Washington Beltway is like a huge speed trap right now. You try to slow down to 65mph or so and the truckers run you over in the right lanes, you speed up to get in the left lane away from the truckers and take your chances with the State Troopers and County cops. It doesn't help that basically the entire south side of the beltway is a work zone with 50mph speed limits either. :bang:
BTW, it's not only the major highways either, cops are EVERYWHERE around here now pulling people over. I see at least a couple people pulled over everyday. I watched one get pulled over behind me today on my way home, glad it wasn't me. :)
This thread was about the court systems though, sorry. :P

Had court today, pled guilty since the assholes didn't give me my postponement. Got it knocked down from 51 in a 25 to a 34 in a 25. One point now on my liscence. Ugh, I guess I should resign to the fact I'll pay high insurance rates for the rest of my life.
Still tempted to get the evidence and possibly apeal it.

If all you have is one point you should be ok. I had two points on my record that were less than a year old  when my insurance renewed this year and they didn't do anything. :)
Just drive slow for the next three years until it is cleared. :P :bang: ;)

Well I hear you on the comparison to letting people get out on bail for serious offenses, but speeding and other traffic tickets happen all day every day so they just don't have the time to re-schedule. Sucks. I wish I coulda gotten my ticket reduced :(
