High pitch noise emitting from car...
It's near the exhaust, rear-end area..
It just started today. Car runs just fine.
Anyone know what it is?

It does not change pitch as I hit the accelerator.

It sounds like an exterior noise to be honest, because of how loud it is, although it is from that area.....

I'm thinking it's just a crappy fuel filter causing the fuel pump to whine. It seems to prime with no problems, and only makes the noise when the car is ON. What do you guys think?

Alright, it IS the fuel pump. The mechanic said "it's just making that noise, and it's fine". Yeah right. They want $950 to replace it....forget that crap.
I'm going to try and replace the fuel filter and see if it's the problem.

Pumps are expensive, and by the book the tank needs to be dropped. I have two friends that had their sending units go bad, and a local shop cut an access panel on the rear deck to get to it. If you still have the problem after replacing the filter and need to replace the pump I'll find you the link if you decide to go that route.

Replacing the fuel filter probably won't make a difference. My fuel pump was loud as hell when I first got my T/A. After a while I started having problems with the car stalling on warmer days. I ended up having to replace the pump. Many of the ones on the market seem to require some sort of modification to install them. The one I bought was simply plug-n-play. http://www.racetronix.com/RX-F99-FPKG-2.html
Replacing it isn't too bad. Just raise the back end of the car a couple feet in the air, unbolt the shocks / panhard rod / etc., lower the rear end, remove the exhaust system, drop the gas tank, and swap the pump out. Piece of cake! Air tools make it go pretty quick.

Here are a few links if you want to do the access panel trick...
My brother and I did it on his 98' TA and it worked GREAT!And when your done,You would NEVER guess that there is a panel there..
Access Panel 1
Access Panel 2
Access Panel 3
The last one is on an LT1 but,it really doesn't look like it differs much..
Good luck on your install....
