Default gears on an auto

i want to put 3.73 gears on my car and have heard that they are pretty good at giving you more power on the bottom end since ls1s seem to be better in the upper end. anyway how do you guys feel about this? would 3.73s be the best choice?...i know any higher than that isnt great for an auto, better for a manual.
thanks!

I think 3.73's would be fine for your car.

You'll be turning around 2350 RPM at 70MPH (highway speeds), which isn't too bad. It should really improve acceleration in each gear though, especially if you have 2.73's stock

before you think about gears think about your torque converter. Theres a lot more to be gained there, and if you get a big stall and 3.73s your car won't hook up for ****.

I had 373 and they were the shiznit. You may want to look into a new tq converter. That will keep you in the meat of the powerband and net you much better acc and ET's on the Street / Strip. If I could do it over again I would have gone with a converter first.

I would go with a torque converter first, you'll get more kick out of it and wont be spinning as high RPM's at highway speeds.

I have 3.23s now. Won't the converter make the gas milage go down, and by how much? I don't mind if it drops...just not drastically with gas prices, ha.

Also, what brand of gears do you guys like...

I used Superior gears available from a vendor here they are direct bolt in for 7.5 GM 10 bolt rear. You will get the complete kit for under $300 and I found that my 4.10's were very quiet. I'd suggest the T/A girdle as well. FWIW, I sold a buddy my 10 bolt with 4.10's and he had a stock converter auto, he thought it would be too much but he loved those gears and had a small cam with heads. Car trapped 118 in the 1/4 and ran 11.90 at a crap track with a drag radial and **** 60'

3.73's are a great gear for an auto, and without a converter you should feel a bit of a difference. I'd do exhaust before I did gears quite honestly if you want more bang for the buck. You will have to have your speedo adjusted for the gears and that would mean possibly spending $300+ to buy a hand held programmer unless you know someone who can do this for you at a dealership with the Tech II.

PM me for the sponsor whom I purchased mine from, I don't want to plug their biz here thats not really fair to the other great sponsors here.
