Default Torquey cam on stock 346

Ok for the last few months I have been looking into the MS3 , T-rex, G5X3, or a custom grind of some kind, my problem is I want insane amounts of torque not reallly horsepower, because I dont dump off the line with street tires above 3500, so I need some damn responsive torque bands, I am definitly leaning towards a custom grind, and I have also read a bunch of threads and posts on this site about grinds and diffferent cams, can anyone help me out ? Im not toooo sure what I am talkin about when it comes to cams and the specs but I am not stupid about it either, also by the way this is a Daily Driver of ~100miles a day , so nothin to intense!

So I have an ls6 intake, bbk 80m tb, tb bypass, 85mm maf, !EGR , !AIR, Mac mids, and ORY, Corsa Catback, (not too much)

I need more torque!

Basically, you want to pump up your dynamic compression a great deal. Narrower LSAs and earlier intake valve closing points will accomplish this.

For a bolt-on car that is on a strict budget, it's hard to go wrong with one of Thunder Racing's new Torque Series of cams. Their 224/224 .563/.563 110LSA cam is a torquier version of their ultra popular TR 224/224 cam. It's easy on springs (Comp 918s are fine) and it makes gobs of torque down low and in the mid-range.

If you're willing to spend more money on spring upgrades, Thunder also has cams in the fast XE-R lobe or the Ultra fast LSK lobe. The cam in my signature is one of the smaller of the Torque Series of cams that Thunder is now making.

If you want something custom, call Geoff at Thunder Racing. He is a master at grinding a custom cam tailored to your application. He'll sell you a custom cam at a good-guy price. 225-754-7223 or geoff@thunderracing.com

And no I'm not on their payroll. With spending in the 5 figures there last year, they are on mine.

say Patrick G I was thinking of a cam something nice and streetable, and after reading your torque cam post I've been very interested in these cams with 110 LSA. I didn't see this new 224 grind on their website so I assue it must be very new. Are there any numbers yet on that thing. My car is a DD so I want all the low and mid torque I can get. I really wanted something a little bigger like a 228/228 or 230 on a 110 with smaller lift like 563. I have 4.10 gears and headers. Is a 228 or 230 on that LSA to much for a daily driver? I don't want lots of stalling or surging and I don't want to shift too high since I don't plan on upgrading parts. I ran a 224/236 114 cam in my LT1 and it didn't feel very strong, I quickly wanted something with more power, so I want to get things right this time. Does thunder racing have any other grinds similar to the one you mentioned or one slightly bigger. I noticed you mentioned the cam isn't as hard on springs-how long can I go between spring changes with a cam such as this one.

thanks patrick but also I plan on running nitrous in the near future, and springs and valvetrain are not a problem I was plannin on a MS3, with dual springs, prs, etc. But I think I would rather have something that would be a little more torquey, I want gobs of torque! (hence the nitrous.) I will call Geoff? at TR, any other info would be great, plus that cam you had listed in your thread, and that you now are currently running, what kind of numbers on a minor bolt on stock motor do you think id get?

With their torque series or any of the custom cams being talked about do you sacrifice a lot of top end?

A lot depends on the following:

1) headers or stock exhaust manifolds
2) emissions requirements
3) gears used.
4) Static compression
