99-02 z28/ss I am going to be searching for a camaro in between those years if i plan to keep the car just to bolt ons like headers,exhaust, gears im assuming that the 01-02 z28/ss would be the fastest for this. But if i decide to go heads/cam nitrous, gears, exhuast then would it really matter what year i got becuase arent they all the same block or is the upper intake different on a certain year. tell me what u guys think and if there is a site that i could see that have all the different specs on the motors through the years.

stick with the later years...they got stronger rod bolts and the ls6 intake.

What years got stronger rod bolts? It doesnt say anything about that that i can see in that list of differences between years??

No, they are not all the same block. About 15%-20% of '02 F-Bodies (I'm not sure about '01's) got the LS6 block. The LS6 was designed to make more power, and twist at higher RPM. To accommodate this, GM changed the block casting design. The LS6 block has cast-in bulhead "windows" which relieve crankcase pressure, and frees up HP. I believe the oil gallery casting design for the LS6 was also improved, greatly enhancing oil supply throughout the engine.
The '01's & '02's also got the stronger, improved rod bolts, and a different cam. LSA dropped from 119.5* for the '98's through '00's, to 116* for the '01's & '02's. Decreased LSA increases overlap, which allows better exhaust scavanging through mid-range RPM. Duration for the '98-'00 was 209*/198*, while the '01 & '02 duration was 207*/196*. Increasing overlap with a short duration cam increases mid-range torque, but gives up some low-end grunt.
This one I'm not sure about, so maybe someone can clarify: I THINK the '01 & '02 M6's also got the Z06 clutch.
All-in-all, your starting from a better position if you limit your search to the '01/'02 model years...and who knows, you might just get lucky and find an LS6 block F-Body.
