Default valve springs how long will they last?

Ive got a set of patriot duals that are starting to make a little more noise than when i installed them ive got about 20k miles on them now someone told me about every 20 they needed to be changed is this true?

Depends on how hard they were ran...but yeah definitely check them out. It may be time to swap them.

They have been run pretty hard so do most people change that quick?

depends on how aggresive the lobes on the cam are. XE-R or LSK lobes will wear out even heavy duty springs in 20K miles

Yes, Please let us know what kind of cam. 20K miles worth of hard driving is going to take its toll on a spring even on a small cam. Contact gunnar@patriot and he'll ship you out a set of replacement coils so you dont have to buy a whole new kit. I just got mine a couple months ago from gunnar and youll be pleasantly surprised how little he wants for them. Once you get them, pop out the cylinder 1 plug (or all of them) and find TDC. Then use the TDC method from the ls1howto cam swap article. Put a dot of whiteout on the crank pulley so you can use that as a reference for every 90* turn. Shouldnt take more than a couple hours to swap the valvesprings.

3000 miles on my Patriot Duals with F10 cam (228/228 0.577 lift) So far so good, but I plan on changing the springs at 20,000 miles or so...

ive got the g5x2. so guess its time too change. damit i hate doing springs!!! thanks for all the info.

Mine are noisy too. have about 16k im going with comp 921s next time.
