ok my friend from work has a 2003 nissan 350z with around 330hp and he has been tryin to get me to run him and i was just wondering if i should wait til i get my 150 shot hooked up with my pacesetters lt to run him or just run him now. all i have on my ls1 right now is a ls6 intake and slp loud mouth exhust.

6 speed or auto? what is done to the 350z? If he is putting down 330 to the wheels it would probably end up being a drivers race.
With a 150 shot it would be no contest.

Run him. People run their mouth a lot about the power their car is making. Majority of the time, they're full of shit. Something, they're sand-bagging and sometimes (albiet, rare) they're telling the truth.

I'd guess that if you sprayed him to win, he'd call you a pussy and make fun of you....

unless he's SC'd or Turbo'd I haven't really seen a lot of Z's with 330 to the wheels just NA. It takes a lot to do that and it's not cheap. I think you should run him and see what happens. He might have that at the crank but I think it would be a good race. I know that our cars respond well to nitrous too so carefule he doesn't spay you either!

its a 6 speed with some upgrades on it the lil thing touched 172mph on a 3 mile straight away last weekend i had my jeep out he ran out of site of me, i hit 115 in my jeep and he said i hit 172mph, but i wanted to see what you guys thought because this is my first ls1, and i dont really know them that well but my 89 firebird will smoke his 350z everyday.

I'd race him...
It would be nice to win, obviously, but it's no big deal if you lose...
All for fun...:)

if you're scared of losing stay on the dyno. run him and whatever happens, happens.
if you lose, you'll know you need to get better at driving. i never got drug by a 350z when i was stock, and i am by no means a master driver.

race him you will most likely beat him. i raced an 04 350z at the dragstrip and the best he coould get was a 9.2 in the 8th mile. his was an automatic though so the 6 speed might be a tad quicker.

He actually dyno'd 330 at the wheels? Or he just estimated that he has 330 at the crank??? Adding about 90WHP would be pretty hard without FI....
The thing about the 350Z is that its motor is pretty much maxed out from the factory. The VQ34540958, or whatever the hell it's called, has very little room for improvement as far as N/A mods go. And I guess the ECU is pretty hard to get to cope with the new mods.
So unless he has some internals (Stroked, Cams, Higher Compression, etc.) or Forced Induction, I'd say he doesn't actually have 330WHP. Full boltons + a tune on a 350Z is only good for about 30-40WHP..

yeah, let me be the first to say powerband: We have a very nice one, the LS1 makes great power from 3k rpm and up. Those little 6 er's dont. We also have a lot more torque! you can take him! I don't believe he hit 172 either.

my bird when i bought it back 4yrs ago had a 305ho tbi in it, but my dad built a 350tpi .30 over with dome pistons roller cam i belive the cam is like a 292 duration cam with msd ingintion 150 wet shot, 700r4 trans with b&m 3400 streetfighter converter, 12 bolt 4.10 gears on a set of 8" cheater slicks

And some people are just dumb. For instance, my friend just got a used police interceptor motor (32V 4.6) and he seems to think it has 450HP for some reason... He isn't trying to talk smack, he genuinely thinks a more or less stock Cobra motor has 450HP...

see the thing that gets me is the 2.73 gear i have. i pulled a holeshot the other nite and i had the traction control button on and i breaked it to 3500 and nailed it and it spint and the traction lite came on and then once it got the traction back under control i was out of sight but when you guys run do you have the tc button on or off ?? because i think if i do it with it off i might get to much will spin.i dont wanna have to play hell catchin up to this 350z if there is a way around my a4 lockin up at the lite so i can jump out the hole and he has to see my bumber but im alil worryed about the holshot.

i never run my m6 the traction control on, its only good for wet/slick pavement. just my .02 though

why would you run with traction control on??? also you have an auto so you shouldn't spin that much out the hole...and as for him hitting 172 :rotflmao:

i ran with th tc on because i thought it would help me out the hole without spinn but all it did was make me fall.

The first time I ran my car was with the traction control on. I did it by accident too, but I still mustered a 13.9 @ 100 :) once I turned it off I ran a 13.4 @ 106 (this was my first time racing a RWD V8) do yourself a favor and don't use it while racing.

dude, dont turn the traction control on, i fugged up real bad at the track didnt realize it was on ran like a 14.0...as for the 350z hes not puttin down 330hp at the wheels, race him, make him look stupid, espically from a dig.

I think he might not know that much about the car. 350Z's have a gov. at 159 stock and not many people bypass that unless they have some serious mods on the car. How would he know it was 172 mph when we only read 160 on the cluster and I don't believe that our Digital Speedo goes past that but i'm not sure on that.

He's probably using "ricer math." Car has 287 hp, cold air intake adds 15 :jest: , exhaust adds 30 :jest: .
350z's are way down on torque and they weigh more. I also doubt he went 172 mph.

Ummm a 350Z is lighter than an F-Body....
And they are pretty torquey for only being a V6 (274lb/ft I think). With 3 miles of straight highway I don't see 172 being impossible, however you would probably have to use most of that 3 miles.

You're right about the weight, I just looked it up. The 3600 lbs. I was thinking was for the roadster. The coupe weighs 3339-3404 depending on the options. Just a little less than a coupe f-body.
274 lb/ft of torque is way down compared to the 330 lb/ft or so our cars are rated at.

It's not impossible to do. The car has a great top end. One guy that goes by Joedirt on here and Z forums has a single turbo 350 that is producing like 440 wheel power which is awsome. He was on here and really cool about racing a new Z06 that a lot of these guys will remember. He I believe has gotten the car past that speed and he says it did it with ease. Even my brothers 300ZX TT did around 160-165 in fifth gear. They do have great top end without a doubt.

Stock 350 Z's weighs about 3200lbs & only puts down about 265whp/250wtq on a dyno, that i have witnessed.....and at the track i've never seen a 350Z N/A go faster than a 13.8 at 104 mph but not bad for a dohc V6:) The LS1 F-body stock throws down about 310whp/320wtq and only weighs about 3300-3400lbs....pretty big difference IMO

Well first of all on the stock rear end you WANT a little wheelspin, dead hooking it over and over on hard runs equals the kiss of death for the good 'ol 10 bolt... although I guess that's not as much of a prob for you being A4. Second of all with the TC on if you're too aggressive the computer cuts so much of your power you'll be sitting there at the starting line watching him get smaller and smaller while cursing at your gas pedal.
IF this guy actually has 330 rwhp (which I highly doubt :jest: ) he may have a shot at you NA, I think it would be a driver's race. If you spray there's no question you'll crush him... for less than $300 not including labor, might not be a bad idea to pick up a heavy duty tranny cooler and TA girdle first tho.

Then there's the fact that it wasn't built to tear up the strip...

I wouldn't race the guy with the 350Z.
He has magical powers that enable him to know how fast he is going, considering 350Z speedos only go to 160. An N/A 6cyl with LT1 power will have a hard time even getting going that fast.
