Default 98 LS1 and 99-02 LS1 what are major differences???

I have been told that the 98 LS1s are very hard to make good hp as compared to later years. I was wondering what are the differences and what are the ways people are fixing them?

hmmm........

I would have to say the heads are a big limiting factor.

That is a big issue... so all of you that have 98 heads get some patriots or some 99-02s.

There is difference in stock head flow characteristics between years but I doubt it's worth much more than 5 hp.

Its not harder the heads flow so similar its worthles to compare just the they have different valve cover bolt patterns and the 98-00 have the LS1 intake. A 98-00 Fbody with an LS6 intake is faster then a 01-02 all other things even cause they had a bigger cam I know this from personal exp too, I have one and it now has over 128k on it with the stock oil origional oil pump, and all origional interrnals except springs, and many 150 dryshot nitrous passes on it still runs strong and doesnt burn anything. All those rumors about 98's being "Bad" are very annoying to me. My .02

about 99 and up they put better bay windows in the block for better oil control down below..

I think they changed the rod bolts also around that time.

Not shure wat its worth on a stock car but Slowhawk did the same cam and mods in a 98 and 99 and you could tell by the graph where the 98 heads were holding it back. I think it was 20hp and 15ft.
