The throttle cam is different, the 99's cable doesnt pull as far and the tb wont open all the way.

Other than that they are identical

If what you're saying about the '99 tb not being able to open all the way is the same thing that I'm thinking about, Camaroextra, there's a mod to fix this too, where you just slightly bend the tab that contacts the stop until the butterfly can open 90 degrees.

I believe the 98's had the quickest cam grade that opens the throttle plate the fastest

Check the sticks that has all the year differences (I think JRP posted it)

Im not so sure this would work. The cam on the 01 is a larger diameter, so there is more cable that needs to be pulled for every degree. the 99 is the smaller cam and when you pull the 99 cable all the way, it would pull enough string to turn it.

You also definatly dont want to mess with the tab on the cam, of you bend it to allow more throttle, it will hold the throttle open agains the idle screw when your trying to idle, that was a newb mistake i made myself when i first got my car. (car started at 3 grand)

I was referring to the bumpstop mod that allows the butterfly to open completely, in response to your post that the '99 TBs won't open all the way. You only need to bend it so far, just so that the butterfly is open to 90 degrees at WOT. Then, if it idles too hi, I suppose there's an idle speed adjustment screw. I didn't have a problem with that. I guess it depends on how far off your butterfly is to begin with.

neither is better than the other, but they are not the same and won't interchange without swapping out the shaft/throttle cam assembly.
