Default Abs INOP? What the heck?

Hey guys yesterday when i got in the car i started driving and look at the gages to see that the ABS INOP light is luminated and the e-brake and low traction light are flashing.

My brakes worked fine all night and the car was not acting weird at all, when i turn the key right before the on position, i can hear the ABS relay ticking in the fuse box, what the heck does this mean?

Also all the lights stop when the car is stopped, but sure enough when i continue going they do the same.

Sounds like a short or bad ground. Need some more details. Does your car have traction control? Check your third brake light also.

If I remember correctly, it should be the same relay for most of the crap under there. Switch em around and see if that helps.

I mean switch a good one in place of the bad one. They should all be the same.

well i was just looking at that and mostly all the numbers match except for abs, will this hurt anything if a wrong one is put in place of it?

I am having a similar problem. The only light that I get is the abs inop light. What would be making that light come on?

Oh ok. Well what is going out? Maybe my abs sensor? Dont you have to replace the whole bearing assembly to replace that?

so would switching different relays hurt anything? like taking the ac compressor relay and putting it in the abs slot, would that hurt anything?

because this might be the problem

go to each wheel and pull the sensor at the reloctor ring they some times get magnatized and collect the metal shavings from your brakes and give a false reading just clean`em and try it. if that does`nt work take a multi-meter and check the plug at the wheel sensor it should be 5 volts car must be running or switch on if it has 5 volts you my have a bad wheel sensor.

go outside with a friend. one of you sit in the car and turn it on. the other go around back. hit the brake and see if the third brake light comes on. if it doesnt then change the bulb that should take care of the abs inop light. try the easiest stuff first then go for the harder stuff.

If you just have the ABS inop light... Check your tire pressures. That cured mine.

The early 4th gens have a problems some times with the speed sensor in the front spindle, if it goes out or starts acting up the ABS inop light goes on and off like that. It happend to me. It also can affect your traction control, it turns it off. Also it could be the speed sensor on the top of the rear axle if your car is equipped. that one also has a bad habit of going out prematurely.
Check those out and if its neither its probably the ABS control module, or even the ABS pump

When I'm braking, the car will like jerk and there will be a pulse/whatever, and then the ABS INOP light will come on.
