Default cammed cars...what weight oil do you run?

i haved used 10-30 mobil one synthetic for over a year and since i have had my cam, about 1 month, the oil gets really thin after about 2-3 weeks. should i use a heavier weight oil?

I run the German Castrol 0w30 (which has a similar weight to what you are running), and it does thinnen up a little, but oil pressure stays at about 40psi idle.

I run that oil in both my ls1's and my gen I sbc. I've never noticed it get thin though.

Whe you say German Castrol, is that different than regular Castrol, or do you just mean Syntec?

Same exact bottle, but here in America laws don't apply to large coorporations so they put regular dyno oil in the syntec bottle. In germany they put real synthetic oil. So don't bother if it says Made in USA on the back.

I run 5w40 Mobil 1 synthetic, because the 5W30 Mobil 1 is almost a w20 and it thins out with usage. I woud use the eurpoean Castrol, but none is around me.

how can you tell its getting thin??? Im willing to bet your oil isnt changing unless your getting coolant in it. Are you basing this off of oil pressure readings??

If your car doesnt work with mobile one synthetic 10w-30 then there is somthing wrong with your car.. not the oil. (not trying to come off rude.. just tryin to help)

Comes in a Castrol Syntec container. The newer bottles say European formula on the bottle in yellow. The back will said made in Germance. The bottom will have M04 or M05 serial number. It is green in color, and has shown some of the best oil analysis tests to date.

So basically, I've been getting hosed on Castrol Syntec and it's not really the fake stuff, it's liquid dinosaur? That's kind stupid. But Mobil 1 is actually a real synthetic?

You haven't been getting hosed. The German Castrol is fully synthetic from my understanding. I'm sure patman will come in here and clean up the confusion any minute

I see how the oil looks when i put it in the car and when I drain it it just seems like the oil has been broken down more than i usually seen between changes. i know what your saying about something being wrong with the car and not the oil. thanks for the info.

Yes, the German Syntec is not only fully synthetic, but uses a very exotic base oil which requires no viscosity index improvers, which means this oil maintains it's viscosity extremely well.
