Default Emissions confusion

I live in NC Last time the car passed emissions it was prior to the mods

Got into a conversation with a got at a tire place down here this afternoon, and he is convinced I wont pass with the 228r tsp cam @ 112 .588/.588 and witht he pacesetter lt's and catted Y.

Granted, I didn;t think it would have a problem, but this guy seems to swear it won't lol

I know cali has to worry about what size cam to put in to pass smog and such.

Anyone able to rest my worried mind lol. Damn that Steve tire guy

You'd wouldn't have a prayer of passing in CA. Out here we're pretty limitted to around a 224/224 114. I hope it's different for you. Good luck!

To find out for sure, call up a few emissions stations around where you live. Ask them if they do the tail pipe test or OBDII. With OBDII all they do is plug into your computer and check for thrown codes. They might also check for all ur EGR stuff and emissions equiptment. I JUST passed a few days ago in Loudon County VA because all I had was the OBDII test. The guy there told me what they do first is check for codes and then pop ur hood and read what's on the sticker that's located on the drivers side near the fuse box. Whatever it mentions there, he has to check for.

tuning wise, we deleted the egr and air i think, but left the hoses and such in the car for looks Ill have to look under the hood. To see what it says.

You're probably fine if you have all the hoses attached. I personally hate having to keep EGR! It's such a pain when doing any work on the car! Besides, it looks effin' ugly!

If you have to go through a sniffer, like we do in BC Canada, you'll likely never pass, unless you have a god-smacked tune.

I passed the sniffer in NY with a 228/222 114LSA last year. That was with a 15:1 AFR

Oh yah, if you have a tuning program just lean her out and you will be fine.

If you live in Charlotte I have a place that never looked twice at my SS other then noticing it dancing with the 112lsa. Its the emissions place on South Blvd, they just do EBDII. In and out, 5 minutes. They spend more time checking if I had cats, tire tread was right, lights worked and if all the filters/hoses were in the right place.

You have all the codes deleted, so you don't have the SES light on, right? And you have cats, so thats no problem.

When you take off your AIR, EGR, rear o2's, the computer will test the "readiness" of these componets to see if they are working correctly. With tuning software you can set all the readiness codes to show "ready" regardless if they really are or not.

96-00 cars cannot have more than 2 "not ready" codes.
01+ cars cannot have more than 1 "not ready" code.

If your car has too many "unready" codes, it does not fail, they will want you to go drive your car around for a certain amount of miles and come back to repeat the test. But you just need to make sure your tuner selected all the items accordingly.

There's a big difference between your cam and the one mentioned. Your's only has -3 degrees overlap which should barely pass, while the above cam has +4 which will not pass. If it's just an OBD II test then no worries!
