Default 9" - 9.5" wide?

Would there be any beneficial reason to upgrade from a 9 inch to a 9.5 inch wide wheel in the front? Can you add any more useable rubber with 9.5 inches? Heh maybe I should re-word that. Anyway, can you get a wider tire up front with that wheel width or would you start rubbing making a full turn? Would it be money better spent elsewhere for a DD car that likes to go back country roading every few weekends?

1/2" in rim width is really minor and does not really net you much if any opportunity to increase tire width. A 9 to 9.5" wheel ideally runs a 275 series tire.

Usually you can get some sort of lip on the front with a 9.5" wheel, where as most 9" will be pretty much flush. My G2 wheels have roughly 2" of lip.
