D-1sc on SI motor
I am not extremely knowledgeable as far as superchargers go. I know a decent amount about turbos but was wondering how reliable a D-1sc would be on a stock motor. Running about 8 lbs. of boost(i think that is a good reliable but potent amount of boost but correct me if i am wrong) with a good tune and supporting fuel mods what would one expect to get out of this car mileage wise before they started having problems. Also how many miles would be expected out of a forged rod/piston setup with lq9 heads? I know that forced induction is hard to put a number on because every setup is alot different but just give me your guess. I would like to eventually run a D-1sc but dont want to rebuild the motor every two years. Thanks alot guys.

Hey thanks Bob, that sure is a nice z28 youve got there at the shop! Its good to see that it can run for a while on a stock old SI motor. Is it common for you customers to get lots of miles also or is this orange crush of yours a freak? Once again....awesome car and thanks for the help.

Thanks! With a good tune there is no reason an LS1 engine with an ATI ProCharger cannot rack up a lot of miles. Waiting until the engine temps are up to the normal range, before going wide open throttle, is very important.
I do have quite a few customers who have put quite a few miles on their engines with an ATI ProCharger installed. Bob

Im just wondering cuz it would be my daily driver for a couple years until i could get a beater but if alot of cars are running them with alot of miles then i will start saving up the money!! As long as i could get at least 50k more miles out of the motor with the D1 on it then i really dont see any problems.....once agains thanks alot Bob i appreciate the help.

Currently I have a P1sc with 12 LBS of boost, every bolt on, ARP rod bolts, arp crank hardware etc, for the exception of a forged shortblock.
I have put over 20,000K of hard driving on it and It still runs great.
But without taking precautions like upgrading ARP rod bolts etc, you will have problems.
I have had alot of problems to get where I am at now. All those problems caused me to upgrade rod bolts etc to hold the motor together.
You have to remember with a D1SC you will see alot more power with 8LBS of boost than you will from a P1SC with 12.
I would say with normal driving, beating on it as necassary, you can see the motor lasting unless you have oiling, or fueling issues. Lets just say you never have any negative experience, I can see the motor lasting for over 15K.

i 100% agree with you there.....i hate the look of t/a's with 3 empty holes in the front with an intercooler peeking through. It looks stupid. Im glad to see you kept your fog lights too. Car looks really good man.

The internals of the D-1SC are capable of producing more boost than the P-1SC from the same pulley size, but 8 psi is still 8 psi. Bob
