water temp gauge Hey everyone im a newbie obviously and i was hoping i could get a lil help. I have a 99 trans am and that year has a "dummy" temp gauge so I am installing a new one in my ac vent. So..im a lil confused as to exactly where i insert the sensor into the block, i know where the stock one is located but i dont wanna use that one and less i just absolutely have too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the OEM temp sens is located in the driver side head (LS1 I presume?) about an inch in front of the first bolt of the ex mnfld.
put your new sens on the water pump, flat part on top of the water heater outlets.
there the water circulates no mater the position of the termostat, this was made for the heating element got heat (dohh) as soon as possible and as stable as possibly.

You're going to need an adapter for the sending unit if you use that location. I'll try to find a link for the exact one. Just a warning though, the adapter is very fragile and can snap if over torqued. I did it on my first one so be careful. Use some plumbers tape and just tighten it just a little more then hand tight.

You can also put it either on the rear of the pass. side head, or there is a plug above the starter that you also take out and replace with the sending unit and adapter.

Just look at your drivers side head, and see where the temp. sending unit is. Now imagne the head turned 180 degrees. That's where it would be on the pass. side. The heads are the same, just facing different directions.

I never tried this myself, but I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. Why not just splice in your new temp. gauge into the existing temp. sensor wiring. Unless of course it's calibrated for different voltage readings. This would make things a lot simpler.

Its 1/8 NPT ID to (I Believe) 12 MM by 1.5 pitch OD (for autometer units).
Your going to have to mail order it from a specialty shop.

i got mine from the link mentioned at the top. i had to bore oen of the adapters a little with a drill bit to get everything to fit, dont know if that is b/c i ordered the wrong kit or what but no big deal either way.
