Default What's the best Streetable Cam

I was wondering what the best cam would be for a stock motor right now with 53k miles. I want as much power as possible with just a cam. Do certain cams mate up with certain heads? Or can I just get a good cam now and get heads later on? As of now my car is pretty much stock except for little things (see sig). Also, is it bad for the motor just to have a cam without headers? I plan on getting headers sometime this winter but I'm on a really tight budget since I'm in highschool. I'm really lost on what to do and need some help. I also have absolutely no clue what cam to get. I just love the sound of a car with a cam and would like this to be my first major mod. Somebody please help me...

a big cam wont work withthe 02 ws6 wheels, you need to get the lt1 style wheels to get the most power

What are rims going to do with a Cam, just wondering. I if am not mistaken, it says he has 2002 rims on his 1995 car. I don't see how the 1995 rims would be any different. I have 2003 Z06 rims on my Z28 with some 275/40/ZR17 BF Goodrich tires. That helped alot. That's like saying more stickers add hp....

i second that, do all the bolt ons you can first and then worry about a cam when you can get the heads done at the same time so you get the most out of your car

Thanks for the smartass remarks, exactly what I was looking for. And I said see sig so a bunch of people didn't tell me to do very little things first. I also think that by stating that I have WS6 wheels is ok to put on my sig and don't need a bunch of **** for it. 6 Replies and only 2 help me, thanks for wasting my time...

I'd have suggest getting a catback and headers before you even think of getting a cam or cam/heads combo. You gotta make your car breathe better to get the most out of it. Just my .02

I wasn't giving you ****, new wheels are nice, cause you can put bigger tires. I have Z06 wheels. Start out with the basic mods(CAI, Exhaust), then work your way big. If your budget isn't the greatest, that is the way to go.

Thanks guys, that's what I thought but wasn't sure. So pretty much after I get headers I can get a cam, I already have functional ram air with the hood, and the 2OTL catback, so headers and 4:10s will be next, or just headers-then the cam. So either the cc306 or LT4 hotcam right? And cc306 stands for Crane Cams right? Sorry about some of the newb questions I'm not familiar with all these terms. And does anyone know where to buy one of these?

The cc stands for comp cams.
For m6 if you want pretty good lope and big power you can get the tried and true CC306. If you want a big mellow the CC305 or gm hot cam.
I got a Comp 305 as its going in auto car and wanted it a bit mellower.

So, what if someone like me, who already has a new exhaust, wants a cam? Are there any 50-state legal cams, that work with emmissions? I'd like to give my motor as much punch as possible, without failing inspections.

Well as far as passing emissions, it's all in the tune. LT4 'Not' cams will pass under most circumstances, gm847 and cc306, and gtp-6 cams are a bit trickier. To the original poster, headers, GEARS (b/c your rpm range will raise with a bigger cam), cam (cc306/gm847 if you are going off the shelf, but a custom cam would be better, TUNE. my .02

Depends on what state, most don't test 1995 and back cause of the OBD1. California you are pretty much fucked.... I am in Arkansas, I can run open Header legally, just too loud... lol

Call up Futral Motorsports and they can give you a great cam for a good deal. That's where I'm getting my LT1 cam in the near future. I don't like the CC306 because of how high you have to rev it to make the most out of it. I'd suggest CCC503 or GM 847 to start.
