Default Spun bearings or engine failed ls1's

Does anyone know of someone who has had a spun bearing or similar catastrophic engine failure? I am having a discussion with another group of owners about how the ls1 design is mostly failproof and would like more experienced members to share what knowledge they have on the subject. Thanks for the replies, and this will probably help sway some imports to domestic (I got a few converts on the fence right now )

many spun bearings are found in LS1 Trans Am and Camaro community.

C'mon fellas, this is important to me. Help me out and give me some good input. Engine builders, this topic is specifically related to the twin-turbo 6g72 motor, and the ls1. For the discussion of which engine hold's up, spins less bearings, etc.

It was an ls1? What were the circumstances, racing, spraying, low oil, etc.?

I've removed two LS1's that have had failure.

first one...car had multiple misfires, and it was a stock LS1 with a 125 wet shot. When we disassembled it, it had 7 bent connecting rods.

The next, customer complaint was a engine noise,...wasn't super loud but, we got the ok to tare down,...and we found two spun bearings.

both 2000 LS1 f-bodies.

I had an engine knock, tore motor apart found 2 broken compression rings (#5 & #7). Motor still ran fine and made 385RWHP with mild heads and a good size cam.

I purchased the motor used with 10K on it. Previous to me buying it was a H/C setup - then a D1SC set up - then a 76mm STS set up. I put new bearings throughout, new rings and dumped it back in the car. #7 is a little loose in there, but for how little I have into this set-up I am not complaining.

She gets tuned next week
