N/a Or Turbo
I have an 01 zo6, and am looking to make this vette run. But I am not sure which way to go to make my power. I would like to do this spending the least amount of money, but still be reliable.
My choices are either all motor 427 making about 600rwhp, and a 200+ shot of nitrous. Or the other option would be with forged internals on a 346 (maybe 383) with a turbo setup. either way I am looking for 800+ rwhp, but I want to get there with the least amount of money spent.
suggestions.

Oh I am familiar with what I will be spending on a stroker motor to get those numbers, but I have not done a lot of research on a turbo setup. I know that I don't need big cubes to get big power from a turbo setup, and I will be doing one or the other.

Do you already have a suitable chassis for such a power plant?
What sort of fuel are you planning on running?
What's the car going to be used for primarily?
600rwhp n/a is going to be one vicious race setup and personally I wouldn't have thought all that street friendly also a 200 shot is not a stroll in the park if you plan on using it regualarily.
A blown 346ci on pump petrol making 800rwhp IMO would be a tall order. Either way you could expect a large bill at the end of a nights use just for maintance and repair.
I would guess the more reliable setup would be a milder one, so maybe large displacement and FI with maybe a little nitrous on top for when you really need that extra 100bhp or so.
Either setup I think the potential cost is going to be rounded up to the nearest couple of thou so if you have that sort of money to play with I can't see it really mattering which is slightly cheaper, surley the best setup for your intended application is the way to go?

If you can buy the Z06 and want to go a 427 or turbo route I am going to assume to can dish out the money to do it right. If thats the case, I vote for a forged 402 done right with a set of AFR 245s, a blower cam and a set of turbos with a nice, big intercooler. Oh, don't forget the new rear and tranny. You may or may not need a 200 shot, but it couldn't hurt

thanks for the opinions, and after some further research It looks as if N/A is my best bet.
To get a motor built to handle the boost and get a turbo system to support the power will cost far more than a nitrous setup. Either way I look at it to make the big numbers will require race gas, and will be horrible on the street. Either way I make the power there will have to be multiple settings for street and race. I already spoke with multiple engine builders for the 427 route, and 600rwhp isn't difficult. It will cost a few bucks and have a rough idle, as compared to a smoother running turbo setup. Either one at close to 600rwhp will have little traction on street tires, and N/A is noticably louder than a turbo setup.

If you can afford it - and believe me there is a lot more cost than just a forged bottom end and fancy turbo kit - then do the turbo setup You wont be disapointed if it is done correctly

thanks; it will definately have lumpy idle, et heads, just under 12:1 compression, huge cam, and hyd roller. I didn't want a solid roller since I would have to adjust the lash, that and it would cost about 4+k more for just a few extra ponies on pump gas. A shot of nitrous will make up for that.

If it were me and i was doing it the cost effective way, id say go big cubes and n20.
If you wanna go even further on a budget, I'd stick with a 408, go forged internals and spray a 200-300 shot.
you can get 550 rwhp out of an NA 408, then add a 200 shot and 750 rwhp and 800+ ft/lbs.
408's will be a couple grand cheaper then a 427 I believe.
I personally love my setup though.
