Race shifting questions
I recently raced my buddy who owns a 98 Mustang GT with some mods. He always beat me off the line because my tires would always spin too much. Don't worry I caught up and passed him in no time after that. Is there a better way to start off in a race? I can't seem to stage it at all without the tires smoking up like crazy. Any tips?

staging your street tires is a waste of time. You're actually making them do the oposite of what their designed to do.
do just a small spin to clean off the tires and just launch from almost an idle and then punch it. your car shouldnt have enough power to spin the tires once the car has started moving. it sounds to me like youre launching from too high an rpm. if its just a 98 gt then this should be plenty for you to rocket past him off the line.
if youre not doing a burnout, not launching and youre still spinning the tires maybe you have some pinion angle issues?

I have a quick question I dont want to steal the thread, but what rpm is it safe to really get on it in first? It seems like I never get any traction no matter what rpm iam in in 1st. And its a stock car with stock gears.

I can't imagine a STOCK, 3.42 geared, full weight SS or Z28 having traction issues across the board in 1st gear. Sounds fishy.

If you werent on a stock clutch I would recomend slipping it for a few seconds off the line, but since it seems like your still on the stocker I would recomend against that.

You HAVE to slip it if you hope to launch and not go up in smoke. I have 160 runs on my car with the stock clutch and NO issues. EASE into the clutch from about 1800 RPM on street tires and progressively give it more throttle as you ease out of the clutch. Once you've released the clutch you can floor it. I've gotten 1.98 60' times with this techinque on stock Goodyear F1's at 32psi. If you're street racing the same thing applies. You need to bog the car some then stomp on it unless you like sitting and spinning all over the place.
