Default Ls1 Brake Upgrade....

Well after having problems with the stock single piston calipers sticking. I replaced front pads, calipers, one new hub/bearing assembly over the last 6 months to find out they still drag when they get hot. I did some research and apparently this is notorious for the lt1 cars. I am not a hard braker but my wheels after a week looked like I was autocrossing 4 days out of the week.BLACK,BLACK,BLACK!!!!!!

So I call a salvage yard and got 2000 knuckles for 130.00,uses my hub/bearing ***.,new 2000 rotors, and new 2000 calipers. You have to bend the metal line away from the body of the car so the brakes lines are not tight at full lock. Total cost was 320.00 and you go from 10.7'{rotor} single cal. to a 12'{rotor} twin piston pbr cal. Stops awesome!!!!!! And seems to actually accel better.

Yup. Can't wait to put mine on.

I have the Raybestos ceramic pads on my 98Z, they dust as much as or less than stock. The standard AutoZone LS1 replacements dust like crazy. I think the pads on these calipers are still factory, but once they're gone, I'll do the Raybestos.

I got mine squared away by replacing the master finally. Well worth the effort.

Its def. a good mod to do. Did in on my LT1 back in the day. I think you could have found a better deal though. You can regularly find the whole package (spindles, calipers, and rotors) on ebay for 150-200 bux sans the pads.

You need the conversion brackets from Bishop. If you can get the brakes for a great price I say go for it.

I wasnt to happy with the LS1 brake setup. It's better than stock but I was expecting them to feel like Cobra brakes. They dont. LS1 brakes feel like my single piston mustang brakes.

Contact trackbird on this site. He has the rights to the C5 brackets now. Great guy too!

C5's on the LT1 F-body are definitely the way to go. With my Carbotech Pads, which I don't recommend for the street btw, I can out-stop an '06 Z06 from 100-0 and 60-0 (proven by radar). I have a '99 Firebird with LS1 brakes and it's in a totally different--and lower--league.

The stock LT1 brakes should have been illegal they were so bad. They had a 150mph+ car with nearly no ability to stop. That was quickly my first (and best) mod!!

Use you stock lines just unbolt them from the frame and bend out alittle. But use the caliper bolts for the LS1 because they are different.

I have them, and they work good. Alot better than the stock LT1 brakes. Anyone know how to adjust the back brakes, I guess there is a little screw on the caliper somewhere..

How tight do you want to go... Just make sure it won't loosen up. The brake lines are easy to strip.
