Default Electric street and race only EWP? Differences?

I am in the market for a pump and I am building a mostly race car, but I will drive it to the track and maybe a cruise every now and then. What I was wondring is if the race pump would work or would I have to buy the street version?
Thanks

I had the race pump on my car for a long time and drove it on the street. Just do a search and find the post where you grind on the alt. bracket to mount the belt tensioner. Besides for that and you will have no heater lines coming out if it will work fine.

So it did Ok on the street? But whats the real difference? If I have no HVAC, I dont need heater lines right?

the meziere race pump also does not have a thermostat housing. it weighs about 8lbs less than the street version.

there is a regular and HD version. 35 and 45 gallons per minute. I believe the recommend the HD for anything over 600hp.

No thermostat? How would that work for cooling the car on the way to the track?

Does the thermostat really matter would be a better question... I know it helps teh engine warm up quicker... somethign that's probably wanted in the winter time, but for a summer use only car, does it actually make a differnece? Once a car is up to temp, the thermostat is open all the time anyway, so the only side effect that I'm seeing is that instead of letting the car run for 5 minutes and going somewhere, you'd have to let it run for probably a few minutes longer, and it would be warm probably a mile or 2 down the road... is that a big deal?

I planned to remove my a/c when the motor swap gets done, and the heat and all the ductwork was to come out this winter when I pull the dash to install the cage..... only reason I had to go with teh street pump was that I was gonna rig up a small defroster for those nights that I go to a cruise and the windshield foggs up it would be a nice way do defogg it..... but the more I think about it, a dry towel woudl probably do the job on those few limited times I need to, and the fact that the race pump is that much cheaper and weigh's 8 lbs less is seeming to me more appealing.

Plus, the cooling effect of having no t-stat and the irno block that I'm going to might be a good idea anyway.

Sometimes without a thermostat the water will move thru the radiator so fast that it doesn't get cooled enough by the air hitting the radiator so the car might actually run hotter than it would if it had a thermostat to help restrict the water flow..

I plan to run the HD race version on my 408 as soon as I get it running.. I don't think its gonna hurt it on the skreet, but we will just have to see..

Check the advanced tech for a thread about restrictions in the cooling systems.

when you say some on the street, how much are we talking? Reason I ask is that I plan to put about 1500 to 2000 miles a year on my 402/th400 setup.. and am wondering if the race pump would be a better route to take then the street pump.

one other side note... the only accessory I run now is the alternator, I'm assuming you guys are going to be using the same thing. its kind of a pain in the *** to get tension on the belt and keep it from slipping. just a forwarning! I fought with alternator 'issues' for a while untill I figured out it was just a slipping belt

So what do you do for a tensioner?
