I live in Chicago and was thinking about buying a car out of state. (I found a really sharp C5 out in Wisconson.) For all that have done this, are you hit with another state tax, Illinois for example? What about plate transfer?
Thanks in advance.

I had to pay taxes in the HOME state. I baught my car from South Carolina.
Plate fees was minimal 50 or 100 bucks nothing major.
But indiana is a hillbilly state compared to IL.

You will have to pay sales tax for your home state. I have to do this for the Z06 that I just bought in Milwaukee.

That's what concerns me, usually the taxes are just worked into the note. Oh well, I guess I'll figure something out. BTW congrats on the Z06!!! I really kinda want one too!

Taxes in home state...I think my plate fees were a couple hundred dollars because the car was only a year old when I got it last year from PA.

SOMETIMES you can have it done at the dealership, but you need the DMV sources and some extra crap of the state you are registering it in, etc... it's quite a bit of hassle so about 99% of dealerships don't dick around with it, cause it can cause some problems.

Seems like the best deals are always out of state.....
