Default Race season. Care to share some pointers?

This will be the first race season that I will actually be able to participate in. Just nabbed the TA back in November and I have NEVER raced at the track before.
Can some of you seasoned veterans share some of the DO's and DONT's of the raceway for us noobs?

Check out the thread on track blunders. I'd take those as don'ts. Just remember to relax and focus on what you are doing not what the other guy is doing, well besides them doing something dangerous.
Driving just comes w/ experience, keep practicing and it will start coming natural to you.

Didnt come up with much when I searched for track blunders.

Im just curious to see what kind of curtesies are supposed to be known when going to the track. I know if youre on street tires you are supposed to drive around the box etc.
I have no problem handling my car I have a handle on the beast for sure.

I ran the truck (time only) last year. Do a dry b/o anyway to heat/dry the tire(s). Pay attention to the worker...pre-stage and stage slowly...decide leave technique...hit it on the last yellow.

Go on a Wed ,if they're open, so there won't be many people there. I went on a Sat afternoon in Jan so there weren't many there anyway. Watch others for awhile if you want.

Im not sure i could make up something so stupid if i didnt actually see it last night

-If you miss the first turn off after you finish your race, dont turn around on the track and head backwards while another race is halfway through, there is a second turnoff at the way end-

Had an import do that to me a few years back, and you can imagine my fear when I saw headlights coming at me as I tried to slow down from 115 mph, then the MF'er cut me off at the turn-off.

I've been racing when that has happened. It scares you to death that's for sure. At IRP, it's an instant go straight home pass

1. Put good tires on your car.

2. Use a log book.

3. Carry an air tank and pressure guage with you.

4. Set the car up the same way for each pass and make a bunch of passes.

5. Carry enough money for a tow home.

6. Get a rule book and read it.

7. Always courtesy stage.

8. Watch more experienced people race.

9. Drive slowly around the pits, etc.

10. Always remember that you are trying to have fun!

Good Luck,

Daren

Both racers need to be pre-staged before either one stages. If you turn on both bulbs at some events you will be disqualified. Some tracks don't have any kind of courtesy rule. Different racers handle it in different ways, but it often ends in hard feelings. If I feel that you are not doing it on purpose I will normally let it slide, but if I feel otherwise I will let you sit for a while before I stage.

Thanks, I didn't know that etiquette rule. I always try to stage first. Whoops.

If you light the pre-stage bulb first, then after your opponent pre-stages it's usually the gentleman's agreement that you stage first (since you pre-staged first).
