True Dual users... c'mon in!!
Ok, want to run something by you guys.
In my current setup, I've got Hooker LT's running through a 3" dual setup (Dr. Gas X-pipe, Dynomax bullets, turndowns before the rear axle).
Sounds awesome outside the car, but I'm getting a TON of resonance and reverb inside the car... literally feels like I'm ripping the car apart. That's no fun...
What I'm thinking about doing is picking up a couple of 3" Dynomax Ultra Flos and installing them in place of the bullets, and then turning the turndowns out slightly so they're not facing directly down.
Do you think this would help with the interior noise??
If so, I'd also like to do this myself, since I can't find any local exhaust shops that'll come close to my car w/out the cats. Where could I pick up an exhaust expander so I could slip fit the new muffler into the existing X-pipe setup, and slip-fit the turndowns onto the mufflers?? I've found a few "tailpipe expanders", but they specifically say that they are not intended for enlarging pipes (just pushing out crimps).
I know this is long, but I'd really appreciate your input.
TIA!

Definitely turn the dumps outwards, this will make a ton of difference. I think that when I finally break down and do a dual setup I will run Jet Hot LTs with 2 12in Dynomax bullets in place of the cats before the X. After the X I was going to use 2 14in Sweet Thunder Mufflers.

Re: True Dual users... c'mon in!!
another option, would be to run them all the way out the back of the car. I have about zero resonance in the car with the duals capped up, now if i open the cutouts (i.e. open headers) it resonates like crazy obviously...
There is a sound clip of mine on the movies of my website in the sig...

I think thats a lil tripppy to put the pipes under the axle. Sounds like an accident waiting to happen.

I like ur design JOE. Thats looks like it would work great. Do you loose alot of airflow by the axle? Those humps look restrictive

Hey 02bluess. Do you have cats on your set up. If you dont can you please email me the shop that put it up for you. I have all the same parts as you but cant get a shop to touch it without cats. Sited12@yahoo.com

The 12" mufflers are actually longer than 12". Your x-pipe needs to be before the drive shaft, and with the exit angles from the LT headers, it's not going to be easy to fit them in without putting in a near 90 degree bend on the way to connecting at the x-pipe.
If you want a less resonant sound, try the Borla XR-1 race mufflers. They flow just as well as the Dynomax, and they sound deeper and more refined than the dynomax. I'm thinking about swapping my dual 12" dynomax out for the Borla. At least go with the 16" dynomax...the 12s are REALLY loud. I don't know what else you have done, but with my 3200rpm stall and H/C it sounds like I'm getting on it around every turn just because the engine revs up. Gets allot of attention...sometimes too much.

You could take the turn downs and actually turn them towrds each other at a 45 degree angle. You get sort of an Xpipe effect, and the sound pulses try to cancel each other out. It actually works pretty well.
My brother has a dual set up with the tail pipes running under the axle. The only way you'd hit speed bumps with them is if you removed the wheels or went over a bump sideways.

Re: True Dual users... c'mon in!!
Just got my true duals with X pipe installed. Running it from the manifolds and cats to a 90/10 X pipe, and then into 14" bullets, under axle and out the rear. No scrapping or anything like that, still need tips put on, undecided as to which ones right now. Does resonate at 2k-2800 though, not mind boggling, probably cuz i still have cats. True, if you turn the dumps towards eachother it will help kill the drone and sh*t. Good-Luck.

Pointing the tips in does work. Looks kind of funky, but it works.
I'd like to see some pics of these under axle tail-pipes - I'm very interested in how it looks/clears everything.
Another option is 2.5" Magnaflow Magnapacks. 4" diameter and still straight through. Probably still flow plenty for a bolt on car.

Borla XR1 12" Sportsman mufflers are pretty skinny, that's why I bought a pair of used ones off of 9.1@150mph Renegade class Mustang.
Don't angle the turn downs straight down because it will thrum off the ground if you are trying to keep it quiet. I forget when I had mine done. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Sited I go to Iggy's on Montrose and I ask for Pete and he does all my work or Danny does it. They know my car well. Let me know if you are still wanting these mufflers I will be taking it all apart in January.

Re: True Dual users... c'mon in!!
Thanks for the feedback guys.
So, are the XR1's quieter than the Ultraflows?? I'd been thinking that about getting the 4"x9" Ultraflows (I like the Dynaflow sound), but if the XR1's sound pretty deep but are slightly less loud, maybe I should go with them.
Whatcha think??
