How do you get the air intake temp. sensor out???

How do you get the air intake temp. sensor out??? I'm in the middle of installing my lid and I cannot get the air intake tempeture sensor out. Do I pull it out or do I cut those fat rubber washer holding the sensor in? Thanks

OK I'll keep working with it. Oh and I touched the sensor from inside the aid duct and a little plastic piece around the sensor cracked!!! Will it be ok?
