please help...overheating problems...

Default please help...overheating problems...

ok, my engine water temp gauge flirts with the red line after ten minutes of driving it seems..the radiator starts boiling i guess or just bubbling and the reservoir spews antifreeze out. what is wrong with my car?..is the thermostat bad? cracked head? head gasket blown?..please help

Try the simple stuff first, check the stat
suspend it in a pot of water with a thermometer in the water and note what temp it opens at, stock should be about 195*, if it doesn't open, replace it

check the following things:

1) level of coolant in radiator/engine/resevoir... what coolant are you using?

2) are all hoses/piping fine? no leaks?

3) do the fans come on? stock temp for fans is actually almost near the red on the temp guage, i think 235f... maybe thats why your engine never totally boils... switch on the ac... do both fans come on?

4) make sure thermo is fine

5) is water pump is fine?

if all seem ok i would give the whole system a flush and fill it up with some top grade coolant...

it was the thermostat..i replaced it and now its running great. any way to have manual switch without buying slp? cant you do something with the relay?

you can have the fans reprogrammed to come on earlier

now im running around 190...how do you do the fans?
