Getting ready to put a new converter in my car soon. I have made my mind up and i'm going with Fuddle because of price. I've done some research but i'm still kind of clueless about which converter I should get. I want to do it right the first time so I really want to make a good choice. Getting a beater so gas mileage is not really a concern. Mods are listed in my signature. I go to the track a few times a year. I will be running DRs at the track after I get the converter. What rpm and str is recommended? From what i've heard 4000 rpm/2.4 str is what i may need. Any input? I have never driven or rode in a car with a high speed stall and have no clue what it will feel like. I just want more torque and better ets. Do I need a trans cooler? Also is tuning mandatory? My car has been tuned, shifts firmed, and torque management deleted.

Stock cam & exhaust, I think you'd be best off with
a 3000 or so. Anything more is going to put you up
above the powerband.

Headers, mild cam, 3500. Big cam, 4000. Insane
combo, 4400+. The bigger you go, the more of
your limited horsepower will be lost to inefficiency.

I do not believe you'll hook on drag radials with
the 3.23s and any kind of large STR. A high ratio
is just another way to lose traction off the line,
you don't need that. I'd say something 2.0ish.
3000/2.2, like the TCI Streetfighter, is more than
Goodyears can hold off the line and through the
1-2. I've ridden in drag radial cars which were
not noticeably better at the same power level.

Look up some posts from "MNR-0", re a Fuddle
at 3000/2.0; you could probably live with that.
If your plans entail more modding you can decide
to "lead it some", but don't get all sold on a drag
converter for a low-mods street car. It'll just be
annoying, inefficient and a waste of gas and
rubber.

I'd say no more than a 3500 stall with a 2.2 STR with a stock cam. I think you could probably do good at 3200 with a 2.2STR.

He'll still run faster with a 4400 vs anything lower on stock internals. Magnus ran 10s with his stock internals car. 4400 stall and 4.10s. Car was gutted, but just saying it will still help your times to run a big stall even on stock internals.

I put 4200 stall and 4.10s on my stock internals and stock manifolds V6 and ran 14.30 before even tuning the shift points.

I'm looking at my stock dyno and I have 25 more hp at 4k then 3.6K. So obviously you're going to get off the line quicker at 4K. It's a pretty steep slope at that point.

You just have to ask yourself about your goals for the car. If you're not going all out then there is no reason to go all out on the stall. Just please don't get a 3000 or lower. Spend your money elsewhere in that case.

4400 stall and ET Streets will own 99% of anything you race on the street. But, if you want great driveability and don't want/plan on a super street setup, I'd still stick with 3500-4000.

I'm running a 3400 2.1 str Fuddle stall, basic stuff, like fipk, catback, added 3:42 gears and Lt headers. On a track with prep I am seeing 60 foot times in the 1.69*'s on nitto 555r's on 16x8 wheels, 12.6's and 7.9 1/8ths. I added a Trango SK fix fit, isn't so much of a shift improver, more of a issue fixer kit. I was getting PWM and sounded like rocks in the tranny in the lower rpms and light throttle..the SK kit took care of the problem and I like the stall even more now. If I did it all over again, I think a 3000-3200 stall would be what I would go with...I do like the 3400, but my car is also a daily driver and would be nice to be a little less stall.

DOM -on a side note,My dad was the person that helped Mangus the day he ran his10.98 We were spraying the track every other run for him and after he went 11.000,my dad coaxed him too try and launch at about 3000rpm,after 2 more trys,guess what 10.98 BIGGER is not always better! he made 16 passes that day, and every one was hitting the slicks a little too hard. We were only glad too have been there, and able too help him make HISTORY!!!

I love my 3400/2.1str stall. Probably should have been the first mod I did.
