2.5" duals out the back?
I'm trying to figure out my exhaust setup and I've decided its got to go all the way back. I'm thinking hooker or jet hot long tubes with 3" to 2.5 xpipe with xr1's over the axle shouldnt be too loud and would look basically stock with the SS tips. Will the 2.5" go over the axle without removing the panhard brace or does it still have to go? You folks that have removed it, have you noticed any ill effects?
Thanks
Chris

Sorry dude....if you go over the top, the bar has to go....I even tried cutting and rewelding the bar to make it work....no luck
In the end I ran out under the axle (run the tubes under the axle tubes (not the center section) because I didn't want to give up that brace (I make hard turns... ). I have not had any problems running under the axle. The mufflers/x-pipe is lower than the pipes under the axle and when the car is lifted, the shocks won't let the rearend drop far enough to hit the pipes.
I admit....its not as cool as over the axle, but it gets the job done

Later and good luck

If you find a really good shop they can make the 2 1/2 fit over, but its not worth the effort. My friend is wanting to change his, every once and while it will hit the brace. The only other option for staying over the axle is to use "nascar" pipe or oval pipe, it has a computed diameter of 4" and fits very nice over the axle and no rubbing. Theres a LPE Camaro here that has it, looks schweet, and sounds nice too. But, by the time you get a couple mufflers under there you can get the whole system under the axles and not worry about it. I have 2 1/2 from the cats into a custom X, then feeding into twin dynomax bullets situated right before the rearend, under the axle and out to 3" tips. The tips seem small compared to most, but they work and not to "hey come f*ck with me" attention getters. Good-Luck.

Thanks for the reply. Yea I pretty much figured it had to go. Has anybody on here run both pipes over on the passenger side? I know Ive seen this done but cant remember where.
I just read your post Charlie. I never thought about the oval pipe. Might be worth looking into. I'm not really worried about the money. Its got to be exactly how I want it or I wont be happy, ya know.

Re: 2.5" duals out the back?
Chris (CW99Z), I will see if I can get some pics of the guys exhaust that has the ovals, may take a couple weeks though. The only time he goes to the local track is during events, the next scheduled is 18 Jan. Nonetheless, I am sure there are more people that will want to check it out. As for now, we dont have any mandrel benders on the island so I will stick with my 2 1/2 piping and routing under the axle, but do plan on using 3" and ovals to go over once I can find a mandrel bender-Anyone want to help me out

On my 96SS I have 3in pipes off off the headers going into a Dr. Gas X-pipe located at the g-load brace.
The x-pipe was made so the outlets are pointing straight back, and they reduce to dual 2.5.
Both 2.5 pipes go over the axle in the stock location and into a single spintech muffler with dual 2.5 inlets, dual 2.5 outlets, and the stock SLP two on the left tailpipes.
The car is at 634rwhp with this system.
On our Speed Inc shop car, it's dual 3 inch off the headers into an X-pipe at the g-load brace area.
Reduces to 2.5 after the X-pipe and the pipes run down either side of the car and up/over the axle to rear mounted mufflers. The upper panhard bar was removed.
It's made over 700 rwhp with that setup.

Here is a link to another site that had the same post. He ran 3" all the way back. There is another post farther down that has dual exhaust but it dumps before the axle.
Hope this helps ya
