Centerforce dual friction w/drill mod??
Finally I have clutch slip between gears and its time for a new clutch. I have 35k miles on my 01 SS. I think that the Centerforce is my best bet. I am looking at pushing 375hp, around 12 seconds. I have seen some people using a "drill mod" when putting in their new clutch. Can someone explain what the drill mod is and if I even need it?? Thanks for the feedback

I have the centerforce DF 12" and i have not done the drill mod. I just finally started getting some hesitation between shifts when i am up in the 6,000rpm range. But when i checked my fluid i noticed it is black as hell, sludgy and its way low! But all i'm gonna do is flush and bleed it again and it should be good as new. I notice you have a 01 so you should have the updated hydraulics.

Now......if you are having problems with your clutch send Will Baty a pm on here. He will be able to help you out if it is centerforces fault! If you need any help with that shoot me a pm.

Well, there is a story behind mine... so I may not be totally fair about it. The car that this was originally in was a '98 Camaro SS with long tubes, no cats, intake, etc... now granted I know the guy that used to own it drove the hell out of it... but I put the engine and tranny in my RX-7 so it is in a car that weighs under 2,900 pounds and has a 4:10 rear end. the clutch started slipping badly on me not long ago. Like in 3-6 when you mashed it around 2-3k it would slip like mad. Clutch has like 10K on it?!? I took it apart and the disc was just plain worn out. The rest didn't look too bad. I am not that happy with it. I have purchased another centerforce disc to use as a temporary solution because I need to be able to drive the car here soon but later this summer I plan to dump it and get the LS7 setup.

here are a couple pictures of the disc...
I am not hard on my clutches... granted I am new to LS1 T56 type clutches, I have never had a problem with any of my other clutches lasting.
Possibly the previous owner beat it to death?
If someone could school me on this I would be more than happy to listen and learn.

what i am betting happened was the guy never properly broke it in. He more than likely just threw it in and hammered on it. Another thing you should find out is if its the 11" or 12" clutch. The old 11" design didn't hold for **** past about 350-400hp from what i have heard. But yah it is kinda hard to make an arguement about a centerforce clutch being bad when you don't know the origin or for sure how many miles or even for sure what type it is. I promise you the centerforce DF 12" clutch would be more than enough to hold what is in your car now.
BTW.....i am willing to bet the guy who owned the car before you was hell on it....judging by how hot that thing looks like it got. If you need any more help let me know

my engine is mostly stock... ported TB, CNC ported 02 manifolds, intake, true duals, no emissions... so i doubt its putting down much more than 350 at the crank
the clutch is pretty young.... so most likely the previous guy just butchered it. always nice to know.

Perhaps its me but I see nothing obviously wrong with the disc in the pic! What is the thickness of it? What is it when its new? The pressure plate and flywheel would likely tell a better story. What did they look like?
