Just curious to see if anyone's built a rifle. I need to find some other hobbies other than "TECH". :jest:

I took apart my BB gun, and when i put it back together i had like 3 parts and 2 springs left over, and the gun worked fine.

I wouldn't mess with a gun unless you really knew what you were doing/

It's not that so much, I was just curious if anyone's ever assembled one. I'm not talking about building your own breech or triger, but more or less buying the components you want (stock, barrel, trigger/bolt/lug/receiver assembly, ect) and doing assembing. I know you can even buy kits that are outfited with the components you want and then assemble with minimal tools.

My uncle does, but he used to be a gunsmith.

They have all kinds of black powder rifle and pistol kits available. You don't have to be a gunsmith to build one of those.

Are you referring to an ar15 style carbine? If so, I did, you can't exactly make that a hobby because after you buy all the parts it takes about a day to assemble and you're done.

Now, I was thinking more a long the lines of small bore, hot catridge like .22-250 or ruger .204. Basically learn something by doing it and then something to have fun with. Now I just gotta make up my mind if I'm gonna do this or a shifter cart. LOL, I'm just going stir crazy lately and need to do something with my hands.

I vote for the shifter cart...or even a bar stool racer. I might do a bar stool racer this winter.

Funny thing is that to use a 600 bike motor/trans to build the shifter cart (along with materials for the frame, breaks, stearing linkage), I seriously doubt that it would be expensive and it'd probably be about the same price as building a rifle with a good scope. Winter, haha, who has that kind of time during tax season.
I've built a couple of AR15s.

I am working on machining the lower for a couple of AR15s. Found all the CAD/CAM files online. Not too much left and they'll be done. Started with machining the cast blanks from DSA but decided that full BILLET ones will be a little nicer. So far it hasn't been too hard. And the assembly of the ARs is extremly easy.

I love your avatar, and Crawlin, I'm guessing you're saying that you've done that.
I have a specific reason that I'm looking to go Ruger .204 or .22-250. It has something to do with a garden, rodents, and felines. If that offends you, tough, DEAL with it. :jest:

Get a Ruger 10/22 and convert it over to .17 Mach 2. That is one bad little rimfire. Eventually I'd like to convert my 10/22 over to it. :) Should be real good for 100 yards or less.
.22 Hornet is a also a VERY nice round for say 100-150 yards on small game. The Hornet has a VERY thin jacket on the bullet and will explode on an aluminum can. I've seen perfect .22 caliber holes on the way in and shrapnel holes on the way out of an EMPTY aluminum can with the Hornet, ensures maximum carnage. :eek2: :D
Here is the link for the .17 Mach 2 conversion.

If you have about 200-500+ yards to shoot the .22-250 is a badass cartridge, don't forget about the .220 Swift either. :eek2: I watched my dad put a head shot on a groundhog one time from every bit of 300 yards with the .22-250. It was a bad scene , excellent long range varmint gun.

From what I've read about the .204 Ruger round, it's got pretty much the same balistics and punch as a .22-250, with less report and felt recoil than it. I'm not as concerned about recoil as I am report :D.

Yeah, I haven't read much on the .204. Heard it's a nice round though.
Just remember, only shoot once so they can't get a fix on ya. :D

Building a .204 or a 22-250 would be difficult without the proper tools. You could by an action and trigger assembly and screw a barrel to it, but with out the proper headspace it will be hard to get it very accurate. If you feel like you are up to it I would suggest a reminton 700 action with a Shilen, Lilja, or Krieger barrel. Then put a jewel trigger in it and a McMillan stock. You are going to have to buy some specialty tools just to do this. Get a catalog from www.brownells.com , it should have everything you need in it.
Or get a 10/22 and convert it to .17 Mach II, or a 10/22 mag and convert it to .17HMR. These two would be the easiest and cheapest to do.

I built my FAL from a parts kit. I just had to have the upper receiver and barrel pieces assembled by a pro gunsmith as it required machining. But I put everything else together. One on my favorite guns.

I know that 10/22s are a great piece, and Ruger makes a very nice arms for the buck, but I'm just not going the 22 route IF I decide to do this over the summer. I've rethought some of this and might go with a savage in .204 as I'd like to do a bit of Ground Hoging this summeron my cusion's farm and my neighbor's farm as I'd think they'd appreciate that.
For the record, I have no problem with cats, as long as they aren't on my property shittin' in dad's garden, or hunting birds.

My brother did some did some work to his 10/22. All that's left from Ruger is the action and trigger. He went with a Fajen thumbhole laminated stock (gray), carbon fiber barrel, Harris bi-pod, and I gave him my Simmons 3x9x40 scope when I rescoped my deer rifle.

if your bored, you should merge an elecrtic wheel chair's drivetrain (the ones with the joystick) and a lay-z-boy, so you can just chill and watch tv, then you can scoot yourself to go answer the door or get a beer or something

Dude I love shooting 1919's they are so much fun...Especially if you have a "SPECIAL" trigger set-up! :bigun2:
i've taken my S&W Sigma apart and modded the trigger pull. that's about it.
