The MBC allows the gate to begin to crack open partially, and early (before setpoint). This causes a small delay in spool to setpoint. The same happens when running off the gate's spring. The EBC can withold the entire vacuum signal from the gate until very close to setpoint, then switch it through a solenoid all at once.
