Highest flowing yet quietest muffler on the market?
Hi guys, What is the highest flowing yet quietest muffler on the market in three inch design?
I currently run a Ultraflo oval race magnum with single in/out. It is fairly quiet but I want even quieter. Weight is an issue for me as well. (Lighter is better of course)
Your thoughts appreciated.
Cheers,
Chris
ps- I have MAC headers, custom 3 inch Ypipe and 3 inch intermediate pipe. I would prefer single in/single out.

The hooker is supposed to flow pretty good and it's pretty quiet (compared to LM, GMMG, ect). The muffler can also be unbolted for track use and weight savings. It's like a free cut out.

When I did my research it appeared that the DynoMax Super Turbo's were clearly the highest flowing and most quiet. Mine flow 554CFM each and clearly are very quite <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

Re: Highest flowing yet quietest muffler on the market?
I have the single in and out #17774 at the bottom of this page
http://www.a-1performance.com/super_...lers_page3.htm
If you mean that you are looking for acceptably low noise for normal city/suburban driving this is a medium loud muffler with very good low frequency tones. For example you can hear people talk inside the car even when you are on the throttle. But by track-only standards it would be considered very low noise.
It's stainless and has 3" cores and unique C-turns at the ends of each turn in the S shape of the flow. Flow is less than a straight through design obviously but it depends on how much quiet you want to achieve. I think it cost me about $110 plus shipping from Houston.

I think the SLP dual/dual and a cut out are a very hard combo to beat. Their might be something better than the SLP D/D for being quiet and highflow, but I'll bet you can find a D/D for dirt cheap as most people hate them because they are quiet.
If you get a used D/D be sure to pull the ring of silence out of the left side.
I have a lot of cops as next door neighbors so quiet is very important to me.

Re: Highest flowing yet quietest muffler on the market?
Chris ARE 360. I have a new Borla Pro XS on order and in my reasurch thats about the quietest and highest flowing muffler and its only $99 and stainless steel! My reasurch consisted of the Nov issue of 5.0 mustang & super fords. They Dyno tested 15 mufflers and also tested the decibles at idle, 2000 rpms and @ wot. They also told the weight of each muffler. The Borla XS outperformed the Borla XR1 while having the lowest sound output of the test. The XS was a offset in and offset out, where the XR1 was streight thru. The Borla XS only weighted in at 7.5 lbs. They show the dyno of each muffler from 2750 to 6500. they had just about every muffler I could think of:
Bassani
Bassani Real street
Borla XS
Borla XR1
DynoMax Ultra Flo
Edlebrock Performer RPM
Flowmaster
Flowtech Afterburner
Flowtech Terminator
Flowtech Warlock
Hooker Aerochamber
Hooker MAXflow
MAC
Magnaflow
and Spin Tech
Just wanted to say that you can learn something form the mustang guys!

98SilverZ I got mine from Speed Tek Automtive in Dallas Tx-214-328-9191. If you look on Borla.com and run your mouse over "BUY BORLA" on their website. Its the forth one down. You can pick anyway you want the inlet and outlet. I picked offset in/out for the quietest. I think the part # is 40353. They sell them for $99. All stainless!
Just make sure you have the part # of the muffler you want and tell them to send it to you.

Re: Highest flowing yet quietest muffler on the market?
How come no one mentioned the Magnaflow muffler? A guy posted on LS1.com after dyno'ing a few back to back runs with his cutout opened and closed and found the comparison between his Magnaflow catback and open Cutout was less than 2 HP.

Re: Highest flowing yet quietest muffler on the market?
Chris,
I'm working on developing a single outlet system that must be quiet , and not hurt power output...
1OTR = one 3" outlet on the right...
Using SLP dual/dual intermediate pipe and "over-the-axle" pipe. Muffler is Magnaflow part #14590 3" inlet and dual 3" outlets. 5"x11"x22" size = to SLP dual/dual muffler. I'm going to weld shut the 3" inlet with a plate, {all magnaflow mufflers are reversible}, and use just the two 3" outs. One as inlet & one as outlet to a single 3" tailpipe. Flow in/out = 44" of sound control, so it should be real quiet. I will use with/without a cutout at the track this spring at check power results.
