Default newbie head gasket questions....

I'm new to the LSx family and am currently looking for one to replace the big block in mt 67 Camaro. I see head gaskets listed with a split in years around 2000/2001. My question is, is this just an updated gasket? (seems the 241 heads were used on both years) If I got a 99 block, and some later heads, would I used the year of the block, or heads for gaskets?
Anywhere I can go to research some of this? I tried the search feature, but came up with nothing on this.
Sorry for the novice questions. After building small and big block Chevys for 20 years, it seems strange to ask question like this, but got to start somewhere.

Thanks
Virgil

That's because of when the LS1 engines switched to LS6 cylinder heads. If you buy LS6 heads, you'd use the later (LS6) head gaskets.

LS6/LS2 are the only ones with 243 heads (ls6), 241 Head castings were on the later ls1 cars. LS1's never came with the 243 heads.

Heads. It changed in 2002. So 2002+ heads need 2002+ head gaskets. It's based on a recess in the head near the #3 and #6 cylinders.

Did the 241s change in 2002 then? The earlier heads would have changed casting numbers due to a revision.
Thanks
