Default help with auto trans

I have a 1998 camaro Z28 with an automatic transmission with about 118,000 miles and i was driving about 45 mph when all of a sudden my transmission shifted into 3rd and reved up like it was in neutral. it shifts fine from 1st to 2nd but in third it just revs up. If anyone knows what might be wrong please let me know. thanks

'All that's wrong with it' is going to cost at least 1500 - 2000 to replace + labor.

RockOn and others have race-ready rebuilt's that far exceed the specs on stock units. I wouldn't give a second thought to having someone local do a 'transmission' overhaul back to stock.

Spend a little extra (or maybe less) and buy a tranny from one of the sponsors.
