I just found a '94 Firebird Formula with 139k on the clock for 3900 bucks.
It books for 6500 and this one is unbelievably clean...it looks brand new. There's not visible blemishes or dents on the car and it looks unreal.
Are Lt1s still very reliable at 139k?
Should I buy it?
Thanks a lot.

I have a '94 LT1 6 speed Formula with 131k. It's rock solid. Of course some issues will be there.
I've replaced (over time) most things that fail by now, (water pump, alternator, radiator, cat converter)
There is one thing that has to be done right now though. The fuel tanks on these cars made before 1999 were steel not plastic like the later ones. My fuel tank has corroded internally and after about 10 miles of driving the fuel gets mixed up and the fuel pump sends dirty fuel to the injectors and it stumbles a bit. A brand new fuel filter will keep it trouble free for 500 miles and then you have about a 10 mile window (almost just in time to get to and from work everyday) to drive before it stumbles a bit.
I need to take a weekend to remove the tank, flush it, and treat it, and I might as well upgrade the fuel pump while I have it apart. It'll drive perfectly after that.
Other than that it's a terrific beater and it has at least 50k trouble free miles left before I have to think about refreshing, or scrapping. ~Joshua
