Default Any Help Appreciated

Was wondering how to test my air system (not air conditioning) to see if it is working properly. Have a general idea but need some input before I get into it. Also, how do you know what position the ...I call it the second throttle cable..should be in at any given time?? Any help or input would be muchly appreciated !!!! Oh one last thing...when buying O2 sensors, is there really a difference between the front and rear ones??
