Default Stock car , better get Short headers or LT headers ??

Hi all ,

now if we have a bone stock car ...... let say just ported mad and ported TB

If he went something like 13.1 with Long tube haders , what will be his E.T. with short headers ??? will be better or worse ??? I mean he has a stock internal car , does the LT headers giving him more power than short headers ??

I think LT headers for modified cars , what you think guys ??

thanks

Always go with a mid or LT header. Shorties are a total waste of money for power gain, IMO. Stock LS1 manifolds will perform as good as any shorty header.

Abdulla,

The long tube headers will give you a broader power range and more peak power than the mid length design.

I just can't see spending the $$$ and time to install anything other than a well designed full long tube header set.

I have also seen some gain peak power with mids over certain LTs, though midrage was better with the LTs in that case.

Either way though, don't disguard mids. They offer very nice gains at ANY level.

well in my opinion, if ur gonna get headers y not go for the best, QTP headers are the best out there, and u will see some nice gains with them...there is no clearence issues and they r very easy to install...only just 2 more weeks till mine come in....a big thanks to Barry at QTP for my headers and other great ideas for my car

should be interesting..

I am going to have to disagree with most of these comments on shorties. On a stock car, as long as you plan to leave it with only bolt ons, I would say that the shorties would be just as close as the long tubes in a fair comparison. The problem with the shorties is that most people leave the stock exhaust after them which is the main difference in LTs. With shorties, no cats, and a bigger y-pipe or duals, I would expect nearly identical gains compared to a LT system on a bolt-on or stock car. No one I believe has done this but I do plan to eventually get there. My choice of header is the new BBK Shorty with 1 3/4 in. primaries. These will soon be available and I have seen and felt gains with them and my only other mod is a lid. With high flow cats or no cats and a bigger y pipe I'd bet there is as much to be gained as LTs.

Keep looking into different exhaust setups if you are worried about emissions or loudness and talk to the people with shorties. Most people that purchase them are very pleased with their results and recommend them. If emissions arent a problem or you plan to go internal then mids or LTs may be a better choice.

Have to agree w/ Trojan, but only up to a point. I have Hooker shorties (1-5/8"), w/ an SLP Y-pipe, stock cats, Y2Y dual-dual. I only picked up 6 HP at install, but after LOTS of tuning I dynoed at 360 HP, through the closed exhaust, still w/ a stock cam. Shorties need tuning to really shine.

However, I still think that mids & LT's will produce more power. I have a set of MACs & an ORY on the shelf, and will be testing this out very soon on the dyno, before & after. I will post the results.
