Default Torque converter questions

now i know the torque converters help alot from a dig but i have been told that even from a roll they make a big difference. how is this???? They said that it just plants the rpms in the power band

Shift extention is prob. the largest help from a roll. This just keeps you in your powerband during shifts instead of dropping so many RPMs after the shift.
