Default World Ford Challenge 9 Wrap Up

I realize it's a Ford event, but we're all video and picture junkies. Enjoy.

Spending a week at World Ford Challenge 9 has been a blast. A few of us from Stenod Performance went down to the race with the crew from Walsh Motorsports and spent a ton of time over the last several days racing, hanging out with friends, making a few new ones and certainly eating well.

We spent a lot of time during the race touring the pits and checking out some of the baddest Ford race cars ever built. From IHRA Pro Stocks to some of the fastest drag radial cars in the country the World Ford Challenge 9 had it all. It wouldn't be fair to everyone to have an event and not be able to see what it's like. We've packed our photo album with over 500 photos of the event. We also did a little video taping during test and tune, qualifying and eliminations for at least Pro Mod 5.0 and Super Street Outlaw. We also managed to get in a few shots of the cars in Street Outlaw and Drag Radial when the timing worked out well. You might find it to be the most comprehensive coverage found in any racing event.

There were a lot of cars at the race that were absolutely amazing to see up close. By far the most amazing car (personally speaking here ) was Robert Patrick's stunning Jerry Haas built 06 Shelby GT500 Pro Stock. The car was absolutely amazing to see in person and will be a real head turner when it makes runs in the IHRA later this summer. For a car that was essentially built from a finished chassis to a running race car starting on Monday, they made an outstanding showing at the World Ford Challenge. If you can't tell from these photos, it's incredibly photogenic. I have video of the car in the pits that I'll try to get up later this week.

Jerry Haas builds a hell of a car. Both our '63 Vette and '00 Viper were built by him. The Vette is an ex-Rickey Smith car so there was a little extra TLC involved in it. Great pics Derty!

2 observations...... #1 are those valve covers/heads physcially big enough ... and #2, what's the deal with the sidewall on those rear tires?

Those are HEMI Valvecovers. They're massive.

Those tires don't have any air in them. On a car like that you have to let all of the air out of the tire to get it off of the car.

not chrysler hemi, must be a different style, those aren't even that big. I know about the tires needing to be deflated to get them off.. just never seen on with teh sidewall flattened out like that... didn't look normal.

Let's not forget that Ken Jenkins' GT (driven by David Wolfe) went 7.40 on 315 M/T radials. He went back to back 7.47/7.48 on Sunday at around 197. First D/R car to ever go sub 7.5's. Next stop...200mph.

Absolutely AMAZING!!

Ken Jenkins? you mean Ken Nelson? it went 7.408 on a 325 M/T Radial, not 315...

It's FORD Hemi. They have the tire off to take the driveshaft out to move the tranny back on the sliders so they can take the clutch out and cut the discs to true them up.

I never did hear what the final outcome was in the Finals. Wolfe beat Big Daddy to the stripe with a 7.40, but he was warned the car and his license were no good below 50's. Wolfe was clicking it off early all day during eliminations.

He took the win, but did it count? I never thought to ask after the finals, there were burgers on the grill and beer in the cooler that caught my attention.
