Default Help and info needed please re cam timing.

G'day, I've put a new Comp 222/224 into my car (LS1) and all was going well - it drove okay, except for stalling out at idle. I drove it at max 2500 revs for a few days until I could get a tune.

I took it to a tuner today (very good and reliable shop) who has told me that it wouldn't make any power past 4000rpm and the output was way low up until that point.

They told me that the cam timing is out 14 degrees and that I probably mounted it one tooth off.

When I did the install, it lined up straight and I checked with a straight edge, ie dot to dot method.

Have I just mucked up and can one tooth off mean 14 degrees?

I think you would know if it was 14 dg off. Your motor would sound like a tin can with rocks in it. Are they trying to see you another cam?? And one tooth off is not 14 degrees. Id say try another shop.

Yep, I got out a protractor and the photo I took when I put it in and it looked pretty good to me.

Don't be too harsh yet though. I suspect that I may be getting set up.....in a humorous way.

I'll know In a few hours.

Cheers and thanks for the reply.

Got the car back and it was true, bugger!

Anyhow, the cam timing was set correctly and the tune progressed and all is now well.

The shop involved charged a minimal fee to pull the front off the engine and put things right.

They were extremely helpful.

Dyno sheet attached.

Cheers,

Macca
