Neal Chance makes some good stuff. So does dynamic, PTC, among others. You get what you pay for with converters it seems.

I'm running a chance with a th400. Couldn't be happier.

ive been talking to fuddle, seems like a quality affordable converter.
it does depend on alot of stuff, like your turbo spool, rpm range, weight, rear end, type of driving.
im starting to lean toward a 3400 with my PT88, then again i might get it and see that i dont like it, so im able to send it back to fuddle and have them restall for free.
fuddle talked about special blades to make it feel tighter to, you might shoot them an email and see what they suggest for you.

now i just have to sell my T56.

Neal Chance one piece is a nice piece. Marty goes over your setup and goals and puts you in the right converter that you need. I'm running a weld up 3400 stall that is building boost and getting it done every pass. It performs nicely on the street too. Their pricing is higher but you are getting great service and product.

I also had good luck with my Yank converter that I ran for NA and for Nitrous.

So there are some good options out there to explore

I've had good luck with Vigilante's...but i've also been thinking about the fuddle converter. He quoted me a 3800 hp/street converter for what I'm running....which is right inline with the Vig 3800 I'm already running.

TH400 is a great choice...trans brake that biotch as well.

The guys on the Turbomustangs.com site rave about PTC torque converters. They're reasonably priced and are supposedly loose on the low end to get boost, then very tight up top. One guy claims they tested the PTC converters against Chance and found the PTC would pull ~4 more mph in an 8 second car, but wasn't as reliable.

I have a Vigilante "0" pump in my car. That's generally referred to as a 2800 stall. However, when the turbo spools up, it flashes to about 5500. The huge torque production of a turbo motor drastically effects the converter stall speed.

Think about it this way: the converters are generally rated by applying ~350 ft-lb of torque to them and see what they stall to. Now, a 377 with a T-76 at 18 psi boost will make over 1000 ft-lb of torque. So, when you triple the torque input to the converter, stall speed rises quite a bit.

hmm i talked with fuddle to day to John! he is a very cool dude! i might be leaning towards a 3400 and with the spool of the turbo 2 step and transbrake he said it will spool to about 3900 sounds good to me! for under 500 bucks and i can send it back to be restalled anytime i want! sounds like a good deal!

Only if you set the 2-step to 3900. If you use the transbrake only, expect 5000+. See my post above - my 2800 flashes to 5500.

That is exactly why people pay the price for a chance converter.....

More reliable..... yeah it may be $1400 but u seriously get what ya pay for.
4 mph is fine but if i get double the life out of it with one from marty then its the same thing as you buying yours twice.....

Mine is Different ..... PowerGlide but with a Chance Converter.

I'm running a VIG 3000 stall, it too flashes to 5000+ under boost. On the trans brake it stalled to 3500 and then at 5 psi it's at 4000 rpms and climbing quick. I'm having them fix it, they tightened it up 2 steps so it should be 800-1000 rpms tighter now. They said this is about as tight as they can make it without getting creative, only a little wiggle room left. I'm pretty sure for my application it should be perfect. My friend has the same converter as me but his is 1 step tighter than mine and it needs to be just a bit tighter.

When you get a stall make sure it's tight if you are gonna boost a lot and like good street manners.

zombie what are you boosting at when you leave the line?? i have a 2 step and will have a transbrake ! so withforced induction such as boost i can get a 3000 stall for good street maners and it will stall to 5000 or so with no problems, no braking anything. and then i can set the 2 step at like 45 or 4000?? that is weird sounding i figuered when you buy a stall its sorta like a rev limiiter its only supossed to stall what it says....but i guess there is no real limit its just what hp you put out~

also i heard there are only 1 kind of stall you want for boost is this true??
how are you fuddle stalls holding up?
