Default Whys does my car idle high sometimes?

I've had problems with my idle going quite high while driving, and stopping at lights, usually when it's very hot outside, and running, AC. Revs can go up to 1500rpm or 2000.

I have an asp reducer pulley, slp maf (to replace a ported stocker), but otherwise engine is stock.

I recently put in a new battery, and had trouble with the battery cables getting a contact. And since then, the high idle problem is happening most of the time. Car was difficult to start, then ran very ratty, until I wiggled the battery cables a bit, then it would run ok, later it started idling high.

ALSO, often when my car is idling high, the ASR light will go ON ALL BY ITSELF.

Is my car possessed or what?

Get a stock MAF and try a stock crank pulley. Or one or the other.
Are you cammed as well?

Clean those battery connections. Low voltage can cause all kinds of crazy gremlins. My buddies older t/a did some completely unexplainable stuff when it had a bad battery and it was jumpstarted. You said yourself the problem started after a battery replacement, and when you play with the cables it helps. All signs point to poor connection!

BrianMSmith did you ever find the cause to this issue? I have a 2000 SS with the exact same issue. It seemed to start after I sea foamed the car? Also I am not sure it is a battery issue with me due to the fact the car has done it for quite awhile and both before and after I got a new battery. Also seems the car will only do this after I have ran it for awhile.

It could also be a vacuum leak. Have you disconnected the MAF sensor and re-connected it? Sometimes something as simple as doing that will fix it.

I have not and I saw a post where some one indicated it could be a vacuum issue especially one with the lines toward the rear of the intake? I will dig into that because those lines were previously messed with which I think can be the issue.

I'd rule that out first. I'd bet that's what the issue is.

When I had a high idle issue mine was the TPS sensor. I would suggest you make sure the throttle returns to 0% otherwise you have a sensor problem or a light throttle body spring problem.
