I'm having a hard time keeping these things organized.
I want to be able to know what scan was done with what tune and vice versa, and keeping them all organized is getting somewhat confusing.

Im currently using a directory for each day I scan/flash but thats resulting in several copies of the same bin,..really really long filenames like this..
"NEW_ATTEMPT_W-SECONDARY-VE_stock_reading_4-1-2006_high_octane_copied_to_low_setMAF-FailP0103.hpt"
And subsequent note files (.txt) pointing at which bin I used for which log file.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Use the built in notepad (Calibration Details)

As for a file name I use, for example:

Bill 5-23-06 Tune 1.hpt

My tunes are titled "2002_Chevrolet_Camaro_4L60E_stock.tun" & "2002_Chevrolet_Camaro_4L60E_v1.17" and so on. As for the logs, I don't bother keeping them since conditions vary from day to day. Going back and making changes off of a log from two months ago is only going to get you into trouble.

I call mine by date and version.
eg. 20060502_b.bin
Year 2006, Month May, Day. Then the letter, the reason I dont the date in that order is if I do two logs a day after enougth relating to the same version of bin, then they will be in alphabetical order. I do the same for bins and logging. I keep all logs, as they dont use up much space, and its good to look back on readings should you have a problem with something in future, so you know what was right when it was running okay.

I guess we all have our own opinions, you will find one that workds best for you.

I do things similar to how RHS outlined on his site (Step #7 in the link below). Use folders, and make sure to include a date at the beginning of the file name. It helps keep your progression as you make more changes.

Folders, Brand (Ford/Gm, ect), Year and Vehicle Type (ie 2002 F-Car Tunes), Customer name, and car details (ie, 2000 WS6 Forumula 427 TT_Joe Smith) .

All my files start off YY-MM-DD.. I start with year because I have filed from 2003 and such..

So, i may have
06-05-23 new HPT product release 01.hpt
06-05-23 new HPT product release 02.hpt

Then the scans for those files would imply be
06-05-23 new HPT product release 01-01.hpl
06-05-23 new HPT product release 01-02.hpl

etc..

just keep notes in the editor of what you do and date the file name like shown many times above. that seems like the easiest.

Thanks for the ideas folks.

I might consider a structured naming scheme going forward, all files in the same folder.

Using the built in notepad Billiumss mentioned, I may leave the tune details in the bin itself and refer to it with a serial # of sorts.

Tune format = #####-importantdetails.hpt ---> 00001-MAF_failp0103.hpt

Log format = DDMMYY-#####(tune used)-##(degrees_F)-##(RUN)-##(Miles/TIME).hpl ---> 052306-00001-60-01.hpl

Just something with a standard format that I can use every time.
Since this is a Windows XP program, you can always just sort by date created and modified so date isn't necessarily important to have inthe title for tunes.
Just a thought.

I put old logs and bins in the round folder.
