mac header instalation ?'s
i'm going to be installing my mac headers and ory pipe on friday after work and i'm wondering about how long it should take? I'll have a lift. Also should i buy GM manifold gaskets or use mac gaskets? Lastly is there any tricks or tips you can help me out with. thanks for any advice

Re: mac header instalation ?'s
Depends on your experience. It took me two days, but could have easily been done in a few hours with the appropriate tools and a lift. Reuse the metal gasket that is on your manifolds now. No need to use a new one. You may have to jack the motor up an inch or so, or remove the passenger side valve cover to the the passenger header on. It's a big pain. The drivers side removal and install should be a snap, could probably do just the drivers side in 2-3 hours at most. Passengers side is the nightmare. Removing the back manifold bolt takes forever. Hope this helps. Also, as I'm sure you've read, might as well do a plug change while you're in there.

I broke 2 plugs doing mine. Good call to replace them all while you are there. Drivers side cake, i pulled Ac, starter and lofted motor to get [assenger side in. I recommend replacing the metal GM gaskets.Exhaust leaks suck. do the job right the first time, it will save you time in the long run good luck!!! you will be happy with the results.

God...... Took 3.5 hours on jackstands. Did not break one plug. Did not pull A/C (only coil pack rails and valve covers) and it was a sinch. Same with my buddys hooker LT's except had to pull the steering knuckle.. Easy stuff. Take your time with it and think.
PS- best way to pull plugs, coil pack, and manifold bolts is to get up into the engine bay on top of the engine and use a 1/4 drive rachet.

the passenger side motor mount bolts are kinda tricky if you do jack the motor. oh and it took me about 8-9 hours over two days. the air/egr tubes will be a bitch to bend and such if you don't have a vice. and be careful not to pinch you A/C lines. good luck

Re: mac header instalation ?'s
finished the job last night or i should say this morning about 2am all went fairly well not real happy with the way the ory pipe fit but i got it all together. about 6HRS and this was with me porting out my headers moving my starter wire and doing a few other fixs to my car. only had to remove my back plus on each side and grind down the casting on the block. also on the pass side i remove the back 2 coils didn't touch my A/c at all. nice power improvement. thank for all of your advice.
