Battery Suggestions
i replaced my battery last year because after 7 years, the original battery was done.
i ended up buying a red top optima battery. after several months on the new battery, i left my radar detector on and didn't drive my car for a week. as you can imagine, the battery was dead and completely drained. i managed to jump it and get it started, but ever since then it will not hold a charge for very long at all. i literally need to start my car every 2 or 3 days or i'll need to jump it again. i only drive my SS once a week or so.
so, now that i need to replace this battery, i'm wondering if i should get another red top or if i should go with something else.
any battery suggestions based on how often i normally drive the car?
thanks.

Well for me an O'Reillys house brand (super start) battery works fine, I drive mine about once a week now, and it hasn't failed me yet
Admittedly there isn't the bling factor with a plain old battery, as there is with a fancy optima red top, but it starts the car and that's what I want (all for $60)
BTW you need to hardwire your detector so it goes on and off with the ignition, so you don't drain the battery again

Sounds like you either gotta bum battery or there's another problem. I don't think leaving the radar on for a week should kill it, they don't use much power. i have a red top in my work car, I've had the battery for at least 7 years and it's been in 5 different vehicles. Two of those vehicles the alt. died and I drove home both times on the battery. long story short, those batteries kick ***

Optima is gel filled so it can't leak liquid acid onto your coolant overflow container
(...lol and eat into it and give your engine a good coolant flush... lol... )
Optima is built very sturdy and has higher cranking amp ratings than alot of other batteries.
You probably have a dud.

what's the normal re-charging procedure after a battery is jumped?
i had to jump the battery about four days ago, but i just let the car idle (couldn't take it out and drive it at that time). then this morning, it won't turn over and i get this loud "clicking/ticking" sound when i turn the key. all my electrical stuff works (radio, gauges, etc.) but the engine won't turn over. i have a battery charger and if i hook that up and jump it, it turns over easily.
if i was to jump it, drive it around for awhile and then drive it every day for a week or so, would the battery get back up to fully charged?

one of the first times i jumped it, i did drive it around for about 45 minutes, but the battery would still die unless i started it every two to three days.
i just think tha battery is hosed...that's all.
is the red top optima the one to go with? i know there is a yellow one as well and possibly others??
