Default Tell me about your ATI 8-Rib experience

I used to use Reichard Racing pulleys (great guy, BTW) to cut down on slip. But, the belts wear quicker and alignment is very unforgiving.

I went ahead and bought an ATI pulley the other day (went from RR 3.30" to ATI 3.40"), figuring I'd drop the boost a tad and lower my IDC. Well, guess what ... It maintained the same boost level, but it is actually more consistent with grip (at least thru 1st and 2nd ... haven't been able to test top speed in 3rd gear yet). The Super Damper and ATI pulley setup seems to be working. The outer edges seem to be higher, too, where it looks like they may contriute to the grip, and the grooves are deeper than the older pulleys (at least from what I could eyeball).

Anyone else have my experience?

I have 3.3 and 3.6 Reichard pulleys.

Wow, all that wear and tear with the ATI 8 rib stuff and the belt shreading RR pulleys.

I'd pick up a SDCE 8 rib set up and be done with it. Consistant boost, and belts last forever...ask Kp about belt wear

I use the SDCE 8 rib set up and with the belt making contact with over 60% of the blower pulley, it works just fine. Just make sure you pre-load the tensioner before installing it.

I have an ATI 8 rib, running 7 psi, seems to work pretty good although I have nothing to compare it to. I did have to add a washer on each of the 3 mounting points for the bracket to get it to align better, after about 6 passes it walked the belt over one rib on the harmonic balancer before I added the washers. Only a little belt dust when walk thing happened. All in all I'm happy with it.

pm'ing you mike...

Super Duty Conpect Engineering.

I absolutely loved my ATI SDCE 8 Rib set up. Got me 15-16psi without even trying hard. No belt wear at all. Then I sold it to Kp, who is doing damn good with my old kit on his car...albeit with a few of his upgrades and supreme know how

I think he even might be running the same belt that I sent when he bought it.

SDCE again! With the SDCE spring tensioner I saw 11 psi with a 3.4. My tuner said he saw 13 psi at one time. Pricey but worth it.

I put a new belt on it with the new motor but I could use the old one if I needed to, still looks like new. The SDCE is the only reason the procharger is on the car still.

Here you go. Now the better question is this. Which is better? SDCE for 500 bucks OR this here for 150.00?

I have a non-flexing bracket. I have the first one made. Jason Escher (formerly of Golden West Performance) prototyped it on my car.

If you plan to keep boost under 12psi then the 8 rib ATI will work fine... Anything above that go with the SDCE setup. My stock ATI 8 Rib started slipping around 11-12psi and bent an idler pulley bolt at the end. With the SDCE setup im getting the same amount of boost running 3000 impeller RPM less. When you max out the SC that would pay off to 1 extra psi at least and more power with the SDCE over the 8 rib ATI.

Good luck

LOL if it was just that easy to swap on a steel bracket, ATI would have gone that route instead of throwing together an 8 Rib kit.

I also had the steel bracket(Golden west steel bracket btw) and it would still flex enough to let the belt slip.

The SDCE set up is a complete package engineered to eliminate belt slip altogether.
It can be used with a stock aluminum bracket or a steel bracket if you already have it. The bracket is supported with a brace to the oil pan for extra rigidity.

SDCE had no problem using my steel bracket at all.

Mike you will need to send your bracket to SDCE so they can modify it for the spring tensioner set up.

I was pushing 15-16psi with my SDCE set up here a mile at 5600ft with the 3.4 pulley.

SDCE

You can use both, but you cannot use just the steel bracket and believe your grip problems will be solved. I use both combined with great results.

Though the steel bracket won't flex, you can still get misalignment of the whole assembly when there is just so much pressure on it. I proved that by tightening the belt way tighter than I normally wou'd, and a perfect alignment went off a bit.
