K&N FIPK & FTRA
I've come up with a way to add cool, dense air while using the K&N FIPK, which is an unfortunate shortcoming of the FIPK.
I have the non-ram air Formula, which has a flat area directly in front of the scoop up front. I took a drill and opened up several holes for the fresh air to enter- directly in front of the FIPK.
<img src="http://www.jailhouse-diary.com/mrbra3.jpg" alt=" - " />
<img src="http://www.jailhouse-diary.com/mrbra4.jpg" alt=" - " />
I then modified the radiator support and then added the FTRA:

<img src="http://www.jailhouse-diary.com/mrbra6.jpg" alt=" - " />
<img src="http://www.jailhouse-diary.com/mrbra7.jpg" alt=" - " />
From below, you can see the light shining above the holes which are directly underneath the FIPK, which was slightly trimmed with tin snips:

I think this addresses the need for fresh, cool air from outside the engine compartment. This would also work with SLP CAI as well.

Re: K&N FIPK & FTRA
Great Idea. I was thinking the same thing as far as adding the FTRA to my FIPK. I don't need the hood mod as I have ram air, but I think the FTRA is a great idea. Did you have to modify the FTRA in any way to use it with the FIPK? If so how? How did you attach it to the new radiator support?
Thanks
Thanks

The FTRA slid in pace like normal.. maybe a bit lower. On top, I made a square with pipe insulation from Home Depot.. which had adhesive on one side. Then the flat FIPK radiator support layed right down atop the FTRA- centered nicely.

Turbulence at highway speeds would totally negate the advantage of those hood holes, but it was a good idea <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Re: K&N FIPK & FTRA
I only have the FIPK, but I did the same thing to my T/A, but slightly more extreme. I cut one giant hole in the hood latch, making sure to not damage the structural strength, then welded sheet metal into the hole to create a tunnel for the air to flow through so the turbulance is minimized. It does work wonderfully! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" /> Fresh cold air directly through the K&N and the car loves it.

Re: K&N FIPK & FTRA
Hello, what a great idea!!!! I did the same thing on my 02 Z28. Instead of holes in the fipk radiator support, I cut a large rectangle, the same size as the ftra opening. one question though??? Why did you snip 2" from the flat part of the ftra??? My fipk just fit right over the ftra kit, no mods at all. I dont understand why the ftra was even taken out or touched in your case??? Please clarify this for me. thanks, vic

Merely personal preference, Vic.
